His life’s history became dramatic after he lost his left hand in World War I but he continued to create works of art for over 50 years. He is the author of many works spread on the entire territory of the country. The Ion Jalea Sculpture Museum Constanța was established on the basis of the artist's donations and includes sculptures, drawings, reliefs, statues, and busts, artworks made from plaster, bronze, marble and stone. The Ion Jalea Sculpture Museum was created in 1968 and it is hosted by a building (declared historical monument) built between 1919 and 1920, in a neo-Romanian style and it was designed by architect Victor Stephanescu.Thank you!

Prof. Dr. Honoris Causa Ion Irimescu (1903 – 2005) was one of Romania's greatest sculptors and sketchers as well as a Member of the Romanian Academy. In 2001 he was awarded the Prize of Excellence for Romanian Culture. His works have been exhibited around the world (Paris, Moscow, Belgrade, Budapest, Istanbul, Warsaw, Rome, Prague, Oslo, Tokyo, etc). He is often referred to as the "patriarch of Romanian art and sculpture" The "Ion Irimescu" Art Museum Building, a historical monument, was built in the mid nineteenth century and had various destinations, until 1974 when it was assigned to the art museum.
