Benefits and Challenges of Cloud Computing Cloud Computing Benefits: Businesses should align their applications to exploit the architectural models offered by Cloud Computing. Some of the typical benefits are listed below: 1. Reduced Cost: There are a number of reasons to attribute cloud technology to lower costs. The billing template is paid according to usage the infrastructure is not purchased which reduces maintenance. Initial expenses and recurrent expenses are much lower than those of traditional computing. 2. Increased Storage: With the huge infrastructure offered by cloud providers the storage and maintenance of large volumes of data is a reality. Sudden workload spikes are also efficiently and effectively managed because the cloud can evolve dynamically. 3. Flexibility: This is an extremely important feature. As businesses need to adapt to changing market conditions even more quickly timeliness is essential. Data Recovery and Availability: All business applications have service level agreements that are strictly followed. Operational teams play a key role in service level agreement management and application execution governance. In production environment support of operational teams • Appropriate clustering and Fail over • Data Replication • System monitoring Transactions monitoring logs monitoring and others • Maintenance Runtime Governance • Disaster recovery • Capacity and performance management If any of the above-mentioned services are under-serviced by a cloud computing vendor the damages and consequences could be serious. 3. Management Capabilities: Despite the presence of several cloud providers the management of the platform and infrastructure is still in its infancy. Features such as "auto-scaling" for example are a critical requirement for many businesses. There is tremendous potential to improve the scalability and load balancing features provided today. 4. Regulatory and Compliance Restrictions: Government regulations in some of the European countries do not allow customers personal information and other sensitive information to be physically located outside the state or country. In order to meet these requirements cloud service providers need to configure a data center or storage site exclusively in the country to comply with the regulations.
