Where we began….. Volunteer Jerry King attended a training at GSUSA’s Edith Macy Conference Center and began taking oral histories of many council VIPs .

Following the 1987 training at Macy, Jean became the first Chairman of the Council History Committee (CHC) with co-chair Alma Sanders and 22 volunteers. They met in a small meeting room at the council office at 1902 Commonwealth. :

Our Mission::

“The purpose of the SJGS Council Archives is to collect and preserve objects of a historical nature related to Girl Scouting and its members, especially in the area now comprising the San Jacinto Girl Scout Council; and to promote interest in and disseminate information about the history of Girl Scouting within the council.” Our Mission :

Historian In 1991 Margaret Sheriff named Chairman of CHC. She wrote her first article for The Golden Link which evolved into a regular feature titled “Moment in History .”

In 1992 following our second request CHC was given Board of Director approval for a donor restricted history fund and an annul budget of $1,000. Donations to this fund are used for archival materials and the ongoing work of the committee.:

In 1995 Tisha Bell developed the fashion show, today it is chaired by Saundra Kuykendall and includes vintage uniforms and clothing ranging from everyday attire to bridal fashion.:

In 1995 CHC hosted it’s first Thanks Badge Tea to honor the recipients of Girl Scouts highest adult award. A fashion show featuring uniforms of past eras and period music was a great success. In fact, the Fashion show was taken on the road to the National Convention of 1996 in Fort Worth Texas.:
