The diet should include foods that help in controlling blood sugar level. And the diet should also provide the essential nutrients. Diabetic meal plan for children includes three meals and three snacks. Let the doctor or dietitian suggest the meal and snack times. It should coordinate with the activity and dosing of insulin. Carbohydrates Carbohydrates affect blood sugar level. Milk fruits grains and sweets are common sources of carbohydrates. Each meal or snack should contain a specific amount of carbohydrates. This is essential for proper blood sugar management. Generally each meal should contain 45 grams to 60 grams of carbohydrates. Each snack should contain 15 grams of carbohydrates. You can use carbohydrate counting books and food labels to count grams of carbohydrates you are giving to your child. Protein and Fat Protein and fat do not affect the level of sugar in the blood.
