MI 101 Introduction to Missions Lesson 2 Missions – The Heartbeat of God Dr. Robert Patton Missions, Crown College

Why missions?:

Why missions? Why should we reach the lost? Does a need = a call? 1% of missionaries “called” get to the field 50% do not return for a second term Will seeing the need keep us on the field?

Introduction:

Introduction The Goal of Missions is to give God glory! He is worthy! Revelation 5:[9] And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation ;

God is a personal God:

God is a personal God The God of the deist is an absent God He wound up the universe Then He went away to contemplate and left the universe to manage itself But the God of the Bible is a personal God – the God of relationships

The nature and heart of God:

The nature and heart of God God’s heart is that of a missionary God He is the creator of all things: Gen. 1:1 He created man especially in His own image: Genesis 1:26 To have relationship with Him To reflect His glory

God is the God of relationships:

God is the God of relationships Relationships have existed since eternity past – between God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit Relationships existed before creation Mankind was created with God in the image of God to also have fellowship with God forever

God created man for fellowship:

God created man for fellowship Genesis 1:[26] And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: …..[27] So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. God told them to be fruitful and fill the earth

God is providentially making man ready for eternity:

God is providentially making man ready for eternity Romans 8:[28] And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God , to them who are the called according to his purpose. [29] For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren .

God is providentially making man ready for eternity:

God is providentially making man ready for eternity Romans 8:[30] Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called : and whom he called, them he also justified : and whom he justified, them he also glorified .

God wants everyone to get saved:

God wants everyone to get saved II Peter 3:[9] The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness ; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance .

God wants everyone to get saved:

God wants everyone to get saved John 3:[16] For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life .

God’s character shows His outreach as a missionary:

God’s character shows His outreach as a missionary God is Spirit God is light God is love

God is Spirit – Jn. 4:24:

God is Spirit – Jn. 4:24 John 4:24 God is a spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. He can only be worshipped by those who have His Spirit living within them. The individual must be saved to truly worship the Creator

God is Spirit:

God is Spirit God is Spirit, and He is infinite, eternal, omnipresent. He has all power And He is outgoing – the God of missions

God is light (Jn. 1:5):

God is light (Jn. 1:5) Because God is light , there is no darkness in Him. He is the enemy of all darkness and evil. As light chases away darkness, He penetrates everywhere, destroying the work of the Evil One.

God is light (Jn. 1:5):

God is light (Jn. 1:5) I John 1:5. This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 6. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth.

God is light (Jn. 1:5):

God is light (Jn. 1:5) I John 1:7. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his son cleanseth us from all sin.

God is light (Jn. 1:5):

God is light (Jn. 1:5) He is a moral God – He has no imperfections Hab. 1:[13] Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity:

God is light (Jn. 1:5):

God is light (Jn. 1:5) God is Holy , and lives in light where no man can approach. I Tim. 6:[16] Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.

Amen.

God is light:

God is light He is the light that lights every man God is righteous, and the God of absolute justice. He cannot lie; He is the God of absolute truth

God is love (I Jn. 4:8, 16):

God is love (I Jn. 4:8, 16) His love is agape love , totally independent of the response of the one loved He loves His creatures without consideration of what He will receive in return.

God is love:

God is love God takes the initiative to seek us first; we do not seek Him first I Jn. 4:10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His son to be the propitiation for our sins. When Adam sinned, he hid from God. But God sought him out, and showed mercy to him.

God is love:

God is love God loves man even in rebellion, and shows grace, long-suffering and goodness to His creation. God seeks to impart Himself to man But we must hold God’s love and His justice in balance

God sent His Son:

God sent His Son John 3:16 God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

The Father and Son sent the Spirit:

The Father and Son sent the Spirit Both the Father and the Son sent the Holy Spirit To indwell the believer To empower the believer to live as a Christian To convict the world of sin, righteousness and judgment

God is good:

God is good God is good in Creation Redemption Sanctification and His ultimate goal for man He is ALWAYS good All the time
