Flag of Cambodia Name: Khmer, (The national flag of Cambodia) The national flag of Cambodia was readopted in 1993, after elections returned the monarchy to rule. The flag used today is the same as that established in 1948, although since then 5 other designs have been used. These have almost all made use of the image of the temple of Angkor Wat in one form or another. This famous temple site, which dates from the 12th century, was built by the Mahidharapura monarchs. It has 5 towers, but these were not always all depicted in the stylized version used on flags. The temple also appears on the arms. The monarchy was restored in September 1993, the 1948 flag having been readopted in June of that year.

The most popular modern interpretation is the four stars represent the four occupations most esteemed by the Communist Party of China, which are farmers, workers, teachers, and soldiers. An interpretation under a more historical context is the four stars represent the traditional four categories of the people in the state, which are Workers (g ō ng, 工 ), Farmers (n ó ng, 农 ), Intellectual (sh ì , 士 ), and Businessmen (sh ā ng, 商 ). The one important point to note here is that the biggest star represents the Chinese Communist Party which is claimed as the leader of all.

Flag of Angola The national flag of Angola came into use at independence on November 11, 1975. It is split horizontally into an upper red half and a lower black half. The red is for the blood spilt by Angolans during their independence struggles, while the black is for the continent of Africa. The symbol in the middle is of a crossed cog wheel (representing workers and industry) and machete (representing the peasantry) with a gold star. It was adopted during a time when Angola had a Marxist government, and it thus supposed to evoke the image of the hammer and sickle found on the flag of the former Soviet Union, a common symbol of Communism
