What is BIPOLAR DISORDER?:

What is BIPOLAR DISORDER? Bipolar disorder, sometimes known as bipolar affective disorder, manic-depressive disorder, or manic depression, is a mental illness characterized by episodes of an elevated mood known as mania, usually alternating with episodes of depression.

Physiological : Abnormalities in the structure and/or function of certain brain circuits could underlie bipolar. Environmental : Recent life events and interpersonal relationships contribute to the likelihood of onsets and recurrences of bipolar mood episodes Neurological : Bipolar disorder may occur as a result of a neurological condition or injury, like stroke, traumatic brain injury, HIV infection and rarely temporal lobe epilepsy. Neuroendocrinological : Dopamine, a known neurotransmitter responsible for mood cycling, has been shown to have increased transmission during the manic phase. Reasons behind bipolar disorder

While diagnosed the disease is divided into 3 following subtypes::

Bipolar I disorder : Based on one or more manic episodes and the type of the most recent episode. Its diagnosed as the most severe one. Bipolar II disorder : Based on no manic episodes, but one or more hypomanic episodes, since the hypomanic episodes may simply appear as a period of successful high productivity and is reported less frequently than a distressing, crippling depression. Cyclothymia : Based on a history of hypomanic episodes & there is a low-grade cycling of mood. While diagnosed the disease is divided into 3 following subtypes:
