After Christ’s Arrest:

After Christ’s Arrest This presentation is the order of events following the arrest of the Lord Y’shua [Jesus]. The order appears to have been:

After Christ’s Arrest:

After Christ’s Arrest (1) The Jewish trial of Y’shua [Jesus], composed of three stages: (a) The preliminary hearing before Annas John 18.12-14, 19-24 (b) The informal trial before Caiaphas and the Sanhedrin, presumably before dawn Matthew 26.5-68 Mark 14.53.65 Luke 22.54, 63-65 John 18.24; and (c) The formal trial by the Sanhedrin Matthew 27.1 Mark 15.1 Luke 22.66-71;

The preliminary hearing before Annas:

The preliminary hearing before Annas So the band of soldiers and their captains and the officers of the Jews arrested Y’shua [Jesus] and bound him. First they led him to Annas , for he was the father-in-law of Caiaphas, who was high priest that year. It was Caiaphas who had advised the Jews that it would be expedient that one man should die for the people. John 18.12-14

The informal trial before Caiaphas and the Sanhedrin, presumably before dawn:

The informal trial before Caiaphas and the Sanhedrin, presumably before dawn Then those who had seized Y’shua led him to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders had gathered. Now the chief priests and the whole council were seeking false testimony…that they might put him to death…at last two came forward…but Y’shua remained silent….the high priest said, “…tell us if you are the Christ, the son of G-d.” Y’shua said, “ You have said so …” Matthew 26.57-68

The formal trial by the Sanhedrin:

The formal trial by the Sanhedrin When day came, the assembly of the elders of the people gathered together, both chief priests and scribes. And they led him away to their council, and they said, “If you are the Christ, tell us.” But he said to them, “If I tell you, you will not believe, and if I ask you, you will not answer. But from now on the Son of Man shall be seated at the right hand of the power of G-d.” So they all said, “Are you the Son of G-d, then?” And he said to them, “You say that I am.” Luke 22.66-71

After Christ’s Arrest:

After Christ’s Arrest (2) Associated with (1) but before (3) were Peter’s denials. Matthew 26.58, 69-75 Mark 14.54, 66-72 Luke 22.54-62 John 18.15-18, 25-27; and Judas’s suicide Matthew 27.3-10; Acts 1.18-19

You will deny me…:

You will deny me… “You will all fall away because of me this night. For it is written ‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’ But after I am raised up, I will go before you to Galilee.” Peter answered him, “Though they all fall away because of you, I will never fall away. Jesus said to him, “Truly , I tell you, this very night, before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times . Matthew 26.31-34 © Shaliach Janet E Brown 2011 Photographs belong to original owners

Judas’s suicide:

Judas’s suicide Then when Judas, his betrayer, saw that Y’shua was condemned, he changed his mind and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders, saying, “I have sinned by betraying innocent blood.” They said, “What is that to us? See to it yourself.” And throwing down the pieces of silver into the temple, he departed, and he went and hanged himself. So they took counsel and bought with them the potter’s field as a burial place for strangers…called the Field of Blood…then was fulfilled spoken by the Prophet Jeremiah, saying, “And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price for him on whom a price had been set by some of the sons of Israel, and they gave them for the potter’s field, as the Lord directed me. Matthew 27.3-10

After Christ’s Arrest:

After Christ’s Arrest (3) The Gentile trial of Y’shua [Jesus], composed of three stages: (a) Y’shua [Jesus] was questioned by Pilate the first time Matthew 27.2,11-14; Mark 15.1-5; Luke 23.1-5; John 18.28-38 (b) Pilate sent Y’shua [Jesus] to Herod Luke 23.6-12; and (c) Herod sent Y’shua [Jesus] back to Pilate, who released Barabbas. Matthew 27.15-26 Mark 15.6-15 Luke 23.13-25 John 18.39-40

Questioned by Pilate the 1st Time…:

Questioned by Pilate the 1 st Time… And they bound him and led him away & delivered him over to Pilate the governor. Now Y’shua stood before the governor, and the governor asked him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” Y’shua said, “You have said so .” But when he was accused by the chief priests and elders, he gave no answer. Then Pilate said to him, “Do you not hear how many things they testify against you?” But he gave him no answer, not even to a single charge, so that the governor was greatly amazed. Pilate sends Yeshua to Herod…:

Pilate sends Yeshua to Herod… When Pilate heard, he asked whether the man was a Galilean. And when he learned that he belonged to Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent him over to Herod, who was himself in Jerusalem at that time. The chief priests and the scribes stood by, vehemently accusing him…Herod with his soldiers treated him with contempt and mocked him. Then, arraying him in splendid clothing, he sent him back to Pilate. Luke 23. 6-12 © Shaliach Janet E Brown 2011 Photographs belong to original owners

Yeshua back to Pilate, Barabbas released…:

Yeshua back to Pilate, Barabbas released… Pilate then called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people, and said to them, “You brought me this man as one who was misleading the people. And after examining him before you, behold, I did not find this man guilty of any of your charges against him. Look, nothing deserving death has been done by him. I will therefore punish and release him.” But they all cried out together, “Away with this man, and release to us Barabbas”... For behold, the days are coming when they will say, ‘Blessed are the barren and the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed!’ ‘Then they will begin to say to the mountains, ‘fall on us,’ and to the hills, ‘Cover us.’ For if they do these things when the wood is green, what will happen when it is dry?” Luke 23. 26-31 © Shaliach Janet E Brown 2011 Photographs belong to original owners

The Legal System:

The Legal System That Condemned Yeshua [Jesus]

The Legal System That Condemned Yeshua [Jesus]:

The Legal System That Condemned Yeshua [Jesus] There were two legal systems that condemned Christ: the Jewish and the Roman, the very two which underlie the modern judicial system. The arrest and proceedings under Annas , Caiaphas, and the Sanhedrin were under Jewish Law, those under Pilate and Herod were under Roman Law. The Jewish trial was illegal in several particulars: (1) The judge was not impartial and did not protect the accused. There is no evidence that the quorum of twenty-three judges was present; the judges took part in the arrest; and they were hostile. Matthew 26.62-63

The Legal System That Condemned Yeshua [Jesus]:

The Legal System That Condemned Yeshua [Jesus] (2) The arrest was unlawful because it was carried out under no formal accusation. (3) In criminal trials all sessions had to be started and carried on only during the day. Night sessions were illegal. (4) A verdict of guilty could not be rendered on the same day as the conclusion of the trial. It had to be given on the next day.

The Legal System That Condemned Yeshua [Jesus]:

The Legal System That Condemned Yeshua [Jesus] (5) The search for hostile testimony was illegal. Matthew 26.59 Mark 14.56 John 11.53 (6) No accused could be convicted on his own evidence, yet they sought replies and admissions from Christ to condemn Him. Matthew 26.63-66 John 18.19; And (7) No valid legal evidence was presented against Him. After Pilate declared Christ innocent (Matthew 27.24); his subsequent acts were all contrary to the letter and spirit of Roman law.
