Accessories CAN Disarming Cable: (MS531-4095) AFR Tuning Monitor: ( MS106-4016) The AFR Tuning Monitor is used for the advanced Tuning level and consists of two Wideband Air/Fuel Ratio Sensors and a compact electronic unit. Throttle Control Limiter: (MS531-4097) Throttle control limiter is a useful option for VE map measuring. This tool helps in setting of constant throttle position during testing. Tuning Dongle: (MS531-4094) The key function of the Tuning Dongle is saving of the original EFI calibration. Thanks to this function the original calibration can be restored at any time. The tuning dongle also incorporates the tuning license exclusively for one motorcycle and must be purchased for tuning of each individual motorcycle and will be mated to the ECM of that motorcycle.

How it Works Start-up and Global Test Navigating the Software ( Diagnostic Function)

Start-up and Global Test 1/3:

Start-up and Global Test 1/3 Connect the USB Cable to the interface and then to the computer. Connect the 4-Pin or 6-Pin cable to the interface and then to the diagnostic port on the bike. Start the software on the computer and select “Harley Davidson & Buell Diagnostics”

Start-up and Global Test 2/3 After the Scanner is connected and the software is started the main diagnostic menu will appear. You can toggle through various different modules using the up or down arrows on the screen. After determining the module to be tested, click on the Green Button. After pressing the Green button the software will prompt the operator to turn on the ignition and confirm In this case here we will be performing a “Global Test” The “Global Test” searches and identifies all embedded control units and reads fault memory, generating a diagnostic report that can be printed.

Start-up and Global Test 3/3 In the case of this bike it shows that it has Fuel injection module, ABS module, Hands Free Security Module, Speedo module, Tacho module and a Radio Module. By selecting the EFI module and then clicking on the fault memory will be displayed. By then clicking on the fault, the information on that fault will be displayed.

Navigate the Software (Diagnostic Functions) 1/3 The diagnostic functions are separated into five categories . ECU Identification: This function enables retrieving the information concerning the installed Electronic Control Unit, the relevant numerical specification of a particular part, the program version etc. This information may become important if the replacement of the control unit or of any other damaged part is necessary. Reading Fault Memory : Reading fault memory takes place after this function has been selected from the activity menu. The errors are divided into two different types: Permanent Errors: (those present in the vehicle at the moment of reading) Historic Errors: (errors that have already been removed and the information about their formation does not appear any more) If the fault memory is not empty, the errors are gradually listed with the error type and verbal description. The transition to the next error is performed only after its confirmation by the user. Erasing Fault Memory: Erasing fault memory occurs automatically after the function is selected from the activity menu. When it is finished, a result is announced, that is, whether the memory deletion has been successful or if there are still permanent errors which cannot be deleted from the memory. Here we must note that some systems save the existing error only after a certain time of engine run.

Navigate the Software (Diagnostic Functions) 2/3 Parameters: This function allows for determining which information is sent to the control unit through the sensors in individual parts of the system or, alternatively, in what way the obtained information is interpreted, in what state it is or what commands it gives to the actuating units. The quantity and kind of accessible parameters depend on the type of vehicle (engine, design, outfit, etc.). The parameter name as well as the value are always displayed. The directly measurable variables are stated in their own physical units, that is for example, accumulator voltage is stated in Volts, injection period (injection valve opening time) in milliseconds, and the like. If it is possible to measure the stated value independently (accumulator voltage by means of voltmeter, injection valve opening time by means of oscilloscope and so on), you can detect the correct function of the actuating unit and the value transmission to the control unit by comparison. Other variables are measured indirectly by means of conversion to electrical variables. A value of this electrical variable is then displayed (e.g., throttle position as a voltage at potentiometer), sometimes simultaneously with conversion to the measured variable (e.g., coolant temperature is stated directly in °C and as measured voltage at temperature sensor). In general, when measuring parameters, it is necessary to point out the fact that recommendations given by the manufacturer relate always to the specific relative conditions, e.g., engine speed is predetermined, the same goes for coolant temperature, etc.

Navigate the Software (Diagnostic Functions) 3/3 Actuators: The control unit controls and influences the engine run and other relating components by means of actuating units. Certain elements can be controlled with an assistance of the control unit without the need for a disassembly. The advantage also lies in the fact you test the element with the inclusion of cabling and connector couplings on the vehicle. The range of elements which can be tested in this way is determined by the capacity of the control unit of the applied system and, of course, by the vehicle outfit as well. In principle, the very test is performed in the following way: the control unit gives the tested actuating unit the commands to act and, simultaneously, the element activity is monitored. Then the result can be measured and displayed back directly by the control unit or in the co-operation with a mechanic  - The operator detects the actual element activity either by means of his/her senses (audible clapping when valves are opened or relays switched, the jetting of fuel when the injection valve is switched, and the like) or with the use of measuring instruments. When the function of the actuating unit is correct, we are sure the element and cabling are correct as well. If the function fails, a search for the cause of failure must continue. Most of the tests must be performed with a stopped engine, although some may be performed with an engine either stopped or running, and on others it may be necessary to have the engine running. The vehicle should be at a standstill and secured. The device reacts to the control system responses and, if necessary, it draws operator’s attention to the necessity of a pertinent intervention. Generally, the duration of the test is finite - in some cases the test ends in reaction to the control unit response, in other cases it can be interrupted either by pressing a return key or it is ended automatically after a certain period (within approximately 30 s - it depends on a specific test and system). If for any reason, the communication between the device and the vehicle control unit was interrupted during actuating testing, we recommend to switch off the ignition key and continue only after several seconds. By doing so you will avoid possible problems when the control unit finds itself in an incorrect state or in a state different from that presupposed by the diagnostic instrument.
