3 Things Pokémon Go Can Teach Us About Running Webinars:

3 Things Pokémon Go Can Teach Us About Running Webinars Ok, so I’m the first to admit that sometimes I get it wrong . Me, one week ago: “So you download the app and then walk around catching things ?” Everyone else: “Yeah, it’s like a real life Pokémon, you will be so addicted!” Five minutes later I gave up, brushed it off as a fad and went on with the rest of my day . But – this time I got it wrong. This game has been around for less than a month and it’s already being considered as the most successful gaming app of all time , having even consumed a few Redbackers *. After chatting with one of my much ‘tech savvier, cooler’ colleagues it hit me – this is more than just a game. The rules and principles apply to so much more. Here’s what I think it can teach us about running our own webinars. http://www.redbackconferencing.com.au/redbacktalk/pokemon-go-and-webinars/

“You have to be in the right place at the right time”:

“You have to be in the right place at the right time” There’s more to this than just luck – the right kind of Pokémon aren’t just going to be hanging around anywhere, how boring would that be? You have to be prepared with enough Poké Balls, Razz Berries and know the best “ Pokéstop ” locations . I find that when it comes to launching a webinar program, many feel like they should because ‘everyone else is doing it.’ It’s important to understand your audience – their needs and wants before you make your mark on the online world . Ask yourself these questions: – Do I have enough content, time and resources to get this off the ground … and then keep it going ? –  Is my audience even ready for this? Or would they prefer another communication method ? –  What do I want to achieve from my webinars ? –  What about my competitors, are they already running webinars? If so, how and when ? Understanding what’s happening around you and paying attention to timing will definitely play a role in making -your webinar series a success. http://www.redbackconferencing.com.au/redbacktalk/pokemon-go-and-webinars/

“You have to be actively moving”:

“You have to be actively moving” Getting out, improving mental health, increasing physical activity and encouraging people to meet and socialise – just a few of the added benefits that have been said to come along with playing Pokémon Go**. Why? Because you physically have to be moving in order to progress further, it’s an active game – it’s about chasing Pokémon in order to find them and catch ‘ em all ! How does this relate to your webinars? Firstly, running webinars is a marathon, not a sprint. These days, hosting one webinar with the expectation of building a community is not a reality . It’s about creating a series that will ultimately engage your audience and make them feel part of something much bigger. http://www.redbackconferencing.com.au/redbacktalk/pokemon-go-and-webinars/

Secondly, always keep on moving forward. Even if your first webinar is a huge success always look for ways that you can enhance the online experience. The webinar world is changing rapidly – 12 months ago it was all about using interactive tools and now, it’s all about clever content and passionate presenters. Here’s some tips on how you can look for ways to tweak your program : 1. Research: There’s so much research on what people do and don’t want – it’s about finding it and then applying it. The 2016 Redback Report is a great start ! 2. Action: How many webinar invitations do you receive? There’s so many on offer globally – start registering for them. See how others collect registrations and run their events 3. Ask: Collect feedback from your online audience when it is fresh in their mind. As well as asking them rating questions, ask them what else they would like to see, everyone has a wish list! http://www.redbackconferencing.com.au/redbacktalk/pokemon-go-and-webinars/

“Know what you want and then work backwards”:

“Know what you want and then work backwards” When it comes to Pokémon, the pros know it’s all about strategy. It’s about knowing what you want to capture and then working backwards – to get the rarer , stronger Pokémon you have to begin with a goal in mind and taking every step necessary to reach it . The same goes for running your own webinars – How can you measure your Return On Investment if you don’t know what you want to achieve from the get go ? It’s important to understand the why, layout your goals and then work backwards. For example, is your measure of success determined by how many people attend your live webinar? Or, if you’re hosting Lead Generation Events is it all about opt-ins that you can nurture and eventually lead to a sale ? Whatever the reason, always ask yourself – do I want a Dragonite or run of the mill Golbat ? http://www.redbackconferencing.com.au/redbacktalk/pokemon-go-and-webinars/

Hopefully I’ve achieved a few things with this piece – inspired you to take action and think about your webinars differently and pay tribute to my colleagues for all the chasing they’ve been doing . Whether you’re Webinaring or Pokémon- ing ( yes, they’re both verbs) enjoy the ride! Cheers, Sara http://www.redbackconferencing.com.au/redbacktalk/pokemon-go-and-webinars/
