What is Materials Management??? : 

“Materials management as a function is responsible for the co-ordination of planning, sourcing, purchasing, moving, storing and controlling materials in optimum manner so as to provide pre-decided services to the customer at minimum cost.” Materials management is the branch of logistics that deals with the tangible components of a supply chain. Specifically, this covers the acquisition of spare parts and replacements, quality control of purchasing and ordering such parts, and the standards involved in ordering, shipping, and warehousing the said parts. What is Materials Management???

INTRODUCTION OF HINDUJA HOSPITAL… P. D. Hinduja National Hospital & Medical Research Centre, is an ultra modern tertiary care hospital, internationally acclaimed for it’s world class medical services with 381 inpatient beds including 57 critical care beds, covering all specialties and diagnostics. The inpatient services are complemented with a day centre, outpatient facilities and an exclusive centre for health check of executives.

CONTINUED… Behind this mission to assimilate the finest in medical and surgical talent and technique, lies a 58 years old dream of our great founder, Shri Parmanand Deepchand Hinduja, who laid the foundation of the National Hospital, way back in 1951. It was the 1st hospital to pioneer the concept of “full time consultants”. Today it has 86 such committed doctors.

INVENTORY CONTROL… : 

INVENTORY CONTROL… The Inventory is controlled in the following way: To know about the running items. To know the Expiry or the absolute items.

SCRAP/ WASTE CONTROL… : 

SCRAP/ WASTE CONTROL… They have 2 types of scrap items: Regular Scrap Items & Engineering Items. For the regular scrap items they have a Scrap Room which is situated near the Hospital itself. A Scrap Note is prepared by the User Department. Valuation of the Scrap Items. Hierarchy for sanction of Scrap. Freezing the Rates depending on the period of time.

CONTINUED… Preparing the Scrap Sale Note, which includes the description of items, rates, quantity, units and amount. Finally, the Scraps are gate passed i.e., they are approved by the authority to sell. For the Engineering Scrap Items, they have a Godown at Sion, where the items are accumulated over the period and the same procedure is followed to sell them. On the other hand, the Wastages are written off from the Balance Sheet of the Hospital.
