What is Leukemia Leukemia is a cancer and is founded in the white cells and it starts in the bone marrow. This desease can occur to anybody of any age but it is more common on children. They are more than one type of Leukemia.

What are the causes The causes of this desease are because the bone marrow makes abnormal white blood cells called “Leukemia cells”. This cells don’t do the work of normal cells they grow faster than the normal cells and they don’t stop growing when they should.With the time Leukemia cells can crowd out the normal white blood cells and that can lead to serious problem such as anemia bleeding and infections.

Incidence New causes of Leukemia: 13.0 per 100000 men and women per year. Number of death: 7.0 per 100000 men and women per year. Based on 2007-2011 Lifetime risk of developing cancer: Approximately 1.4 of men and women will be diagnosed with Leukemia at a point of their life. Based on 2009-2011 data.

How can it be prevented There is no known way to prevent most types of Leukemia. Some types can be prevented by avoiding high doses of radiation exposure to the chemical benzene smoking etc.

Risk Factors Chemotherapy and/or radiation on previous cancer treatments increased the risk of having leukemia. Genetic disorders Certain blood disorders Exposure to high levels of radiation. Exposure to certain chemicals Family history of Leukemia Swollen lymph that doesn’t hurt

Current treatment options Leukemia’s treatment depends on the type of Leukemia certains features on the leukemia’s cells the extent of the deseases prior history of treatment age and health of the patient. Some types of Leukemia can be treated by chemotherapy radiation therapy and/or bone marrow transplantation. They are treatments in the U.S. some of them are in Texas and Floridaetc.
