Demonize His side, sanitize yours & Evade questions gracefully:

Demonize His side, sanitize yours & Evade questions gracefully Dirty trick #19 and Dirty trick #20 By: Alexis Padilla

Dirty trick#19 Demonize His side, sanitize yours:

Dirty trick#19 Demonize His side, sanitize yours Definition: Using good words to describe your side and negative words to describe theirs . obscure your real motives. Examples: A great example of this is when Trump stated that he will not be taking the salary given if he is president and also will not accept big donations for his campaign. Therefore making the other delegates running for president look bad. A second example would be, “ I believe in freedom for all, but they believe in a dictatorship.”

Dirty Trick#20 Evade questions gracefully:

Dirty Trick#20 Evade questions gracefully Definition: Give an answer that is a generalization. Deflect questions with jokes. Simply you are trying your best to not give a bad answer, so you are dancing around the questions. Examples: “ How long will the troops be in Iraq?”… “ As long as necessary, but not a moment longer.” “ When will we be able to meet up?”… “ Whenever I get a chance.”

Five discussion questions:

Which Fallacy is the easiest to understand? W hy?

Five discussion questions:

Five discussion questions Demonize His Side, Sanitize Yours And Evade Questions Gracefully 1 .) When are each of these fallacies most likely used? - These fallacies are most likely used in politics, specifically senators, presidents etc. - These fallacies are often used in everyday language as well. When you are arguing someone haven’t you tried avoiding the question at hand? Or haven’t you tried to make your side of the argument sound better by using certain words and certain words to degrade the other side of the argument?

Even though they are considered “dirty tricks” can they be used in a positive way? - When evading a question gracefully, I suppose t could be seen in a positive way when trying not to hurt another persons feelings. - Demonizing His Side, and Sanitizing your own side I don’t feel as that it can be used in a positive way. You are either obscuring your true intensions, or putting down other people while making yourself look great.

With a better comprehension of what these fallacies are, what key factors will you look for in order to spot them more often ? - For Demonize His Side, Sanitize Your Own I would look for one opponent to be playing up their side of the argument and putting down the other while using good language. - For Evade Questions Gracefully I would look if they merely avoided the question and is so how.

Demonize his side, Sanitize your Own for sure in persuasive essays, arguments etc. Evade Questions gracefully also can be helpful in essays if they are question based.

Why? - Demonize his side, Sanitize Your Own seems easiest to me, but that’s just my opinion! It seems harder to spot, but once you understand what it is and how it is used makes it very comprehendible.

Assignment:

Assignment Get with a partner and do a political Q and A (questions and answers) using the fallacies that we just went over ( Demonize His Side, Sanitize Your Own and Evade Questions Gracefully ) and show that you both know how to use them. It needs to be a written out and then acted out in a video. When completed both of you need to write a paragraph each on what you learned, and any experiences you may have had with one or both fallacies.
