Content Standards Addressed 1.0 ARTISTIC PERCEPTION Processing Analyzing and Responding to Sensory Information Through the Language and Skills Unique to the Visual Arts Students perceive and respond to works of art objects in nature events and the environment. They also use the vocabulary of the visual arts to express their observations. 1.1 Identify use the principles of design to discuss analyze write about visual aspects in the environment and in works of art including their own. 1.1 Analyze and discuss complex ideas such as distortion color theory arbitrary color scale expressive content and real versus virtual in works of art.

Students will use the internet to access different resources about color theory 2. Students will will use the computer to type a response to submit with their final project 3. Students will use the computer to alter color photos to change the mood

Student Learning Objectives and Assessments Learning Objectives 1. Students will be able to understand what colors make up the color wheel 2. Students will be able to define different color schemes 3. Students will be able to create tints and shades of different colors Assessments 1. Entry Level: Discussion to gauge student’s understanding accompanied by handouts 2. Formative: Assorted graphic organizers along with project rubrics that detail project objectives 3. Summative: End of the class critique where students are to use vocabulary to critique their own and other classmate’s finished project.

Two different learning activities Changing the mood Students will be given the task of using computer software to change the colors on photographs to create different moods. This will highlight importance of color to create a certain mood. Creating tints and shades After color wheels have been created students will use white and black paint to create different tints and shades of each color showing the different variations in tone that can be achieved.

Why I chose this topic I chose this topic because understanding color is very important to creating works of art. Students are introduced to color by exploring the color wheel understanding different color relationships creating different tints and shades of each color and exploring how changing the color of a specific image can change the mood. I feel that if students get a good grasp of color early on this will help them tremendously with the projects that follow. I am not just interested in having a student construct a color wheel. I want to create a lessons that pushes each student to learn how color works and how we respond to certain color relationships. I believe using the computer to manipulate colors on a photo to change the mood will give students a good example of how color works
