ABSTRACT:

ABSTRACT   Now a day’s comfort and control are two major aspects in field of automobile design and manufacturing. At present condition spring and damper system are used as shock absorber in automobiles. With view of increase the comfort and control ACTIVE suspension system is introduced to fulfill the requirement of modern days. This seminar intended to explain the resurgence of interest in the suspension system in recent year and outline the significant challenges that lie a head in commercializing suspension system.

LITERATURE SURVEY:

LITERATURE SURVEY In 1980, Bose founder and CEO Dr. Amar Bose conducted a mathematical study to determine the optimum possible performance of an Active suspension , ignoring the limitations of any existing suspension hardware In march,2010 Bart L. J. Gysen , Member, IEEE , Johannes J. H. Paulides , Member, IEEE ,Jeroen L. G. Janssen, Member, IEEE , and Elena A. Lomonova , Fellow, IEEE published a paper on “ Active Electromagnetic Suspension System forImproved Vehicle Dynamics”

IDEAL SUSPENSION:

IDEAL SUSPENSION R apidly and independently absorb road shocks S lowly return to its normal position while maintaining optimal tire-to-road contact. Two main characteristics- A] Passanger comfort B] Vehicle control Transportaion Research Board reported 51% of accidents are caused by roll over. So, C.G. height must be lowered but that causes passanger discomfort. Here comes the need of “ACTIVE SUSPENSION SYSTEM”

OBJECTIVES:

OBJECTIVES   To prevent the road shocks from being transmitted to the vehicle parts, thereby providing suitable riding and cushioning effect to the occupants. To keep the vehicle stable while in motion by providing good road holding during driving cornering and braking. Provides safe vehicle control and free of irritating vibrations and reduce wear and tear.

ACTIVE SUSPENSION TECHNOLOGIES:

ACTIVE SUSPENSION TECHNOLOGIES Active suspension means a separate actuator is used to operate each wheel springs seperately . Based on the actuator mechanism:- HYDRAULIC SYSTEM ELECTROMAGNETIC SYSTEM[BOSE suspension system]

SPECIAL FEATURES:

SPECIAL FEATURES Electromagnetic motors with power amplifier at each wheel instead of traditional shocks and struts. Sensors at various locations to detect body and suspension movement. Suspension control unit to send command signal to every motor Torsion bar

WORKING PRINCIPLE:

WORKING PRINCIPLE linear electromagnetic motor (L.E.M.) at each wheel produces the required force with the help of a power amplifier in response to the signal from control unit Power return from the motor Torsion bars take care of supporting the vehicle, allowing the Bose system to concentrate on optimizing handling and ride

RESULT:

ON-ROAD EXPERIMENT:

During high-speed cornering, braking, and accelerating, roll and pitch forces tend to turn the body around the roll and pitch axes due to uneven distribution of body weight along the 4 wheels ON-ROAD EXPERIMENT Model - BMW-530i A] ROLL AND PITCH BEHAVIOUR

APPLICATION:

APPLICATION Active suspension System will be offered on luxury vehicles within few year. BMW and MERCEDES already started using it. The same technology can also be applied in Military applications.

DRAWBACKS:

DRAWBACKS Initial cost If system breakdowns, its very difficult and costly affair to repair it. complex design and hence high precision machinery and skilled workers to manufacture.  

conclusion:

conclusion Due to the change in vehicle concepts, the suspension system becomes even more important due to changes in the sprung and unsprung masses. Active electromagnetic suspension systems can maintain the required stability and comfort at the cost of a negligible amount of power due to the ability of adaptation in correspondence with the state of the vehicles
