slide 2: Page 2 Indian renewable energy Development: Past
and present Backed by the government from the very beginning India became the first
country in the world to establish a ministry of non-conventional energy
resources back in the 1980s. It was then that the Ministry of New and
Renewable Energy was set up. a Wind power was the first to develop in
India that made the use of wind current to generate electricity back in the
1990s. And the development of this particular renewable resource has
distinctly increased in the past few years. In fact India is the country that is
has become the fourth largest installed wind – power capacity in the world.
The installed wind power capacity of India reached a total of 26769.05 MW
in the year 2016 March 31. Wind energy being the fastest growing
renewable energy sector in India accounts for 66 of the total installed
power capacity among all the renewable energy sources. Also India aims to
generate a gigantic amount of electricity approximately 60000 MW from
wind energy by the year 2022.
slide 3: Page 3 b India is an ideal set up to generate solar power owing to its high
population and the fact that it receives appreciable amount of solar
insolation is the power of sunlight received by the Earth per unit area on a
horizontal surface. India receives a total of 300 sunny days annually. So
the total solar power generation in a year is more than the energy output
of fossil fuels. Initially India did not have electrical grid for generating
electricity from solar energy but in the year 2013 India has installed a grid-
connected solar PV capacity of 1.7 GW. Solar energy was initially used for
running water pumps which otherwise used diesel for power. Now solar
energy can support giving power to an entire house. Solar energy in India
aims to generate an enormous amount of electricity approximately 20 GW
by the year 2020.

Producer IPP in India. The power capacity that Welspun Renewables has
operationally reached is a total of 680 MW. Welspun Renewables receives
international investments globally for the funding of their renewable
energy projects. The government is also actively contributing to adopt
renewable energy resources by specifying a 175 GW target of renewable
energy development. The 151 MWDC solar project helmed by Welspun
Renewables in Neemuch was one of the largest solar plants of the world at
the time of its commencement. In fact all of Welspun Renewables’ power
plants rank among the highest power generating projects in the country.
