To introduce yourself Aya and Jean meet for the first time. -Good morning! I am Jean. Nice to meet you! -Good morning Jean! I am Aya . Are you french ? -Yes I am. And you? -I am japanese . -Japanese? So welcome in France! - T hank you Jean!

To introduce yourself:

Vocabulaire Salutation Bonjour : good morning Bonsoir : good evening Au revoir : good bye Bienvenue : welcome Nationalité ( masculine / feminine ) Français / française : french Japonais / japonaise : Japanese Américain / américiane : american Chinois / chinoise : chinese Singulier (singular) Pluriel (plural) Je : I Nous : we Tu : you Vous : you Il / elle / c’ : he / she / it Ils / elles : they

French tips! When you meet someone prepare yourself for a handshake! In some case, the person will kiss you on your cheeks! It is called “la bise ”. The number of kisses depend on the region you are in. Most of time we do “la bise ” to friends. Many french words look like english words. Most of english words ending with “ ic ” can be easily translated in french : exemple : theoric = théorique ; chaotic = chaotique , cosmetic = cosmétique …

French tips!:

Grammaire The structure of the sentences can be very hard. But it’s easy to learn to make short sentences : Subject + Verb + Complement. Examples : Je suis américain . S + V + C Je suis enchanté . S + V + C So… at first try to make short sentences!

Conjugaison French conjugaison is a little bit hard (different times, irregular forms of verb). Let’s start with 3 common verbs : être (to be), avoir (to have), faire (to do). With those 3 verbs you can make many sentences. We start with the present time. Singulier (singular) Pluriel (plural) Je : I Nous : we Tu : you Vous : you Il / elle : he / she Ils / elles : they

Conjugaison Être au présent (it has the same uses as be) Je suis Tu es Il / elle / est Nous sommes Vous êtes Ils / elles sont

Conjugaison Avoir au présent (it has the same uses as have) J’ai (and not j e ai ) Tu as Il / elle a Nous avons Vous avez Ils / elles ont

Conjugaison Faire au présent (it has the same uses as do) Je fais Tu fais Il / elle fait Nous faisons Vous faites Ils / elles font

Exercices Train yourself reading the dialogue. Identify the subject, the verb, and the complement of the following sentences even you don’t understand all the words : Nous jouons au football. Vous mangez du chocolat . Il vend des voitures . J’aime venir ici . Tu apprends le français . Make 2 short sentences with être , avoir , faire (you can use your own vocabulary).

Exercices As a reward of your effort, listen the hilarious song “ Fou dou fafa ” by the Flight of the Conchords (try to notice when they sing in French).

La prononciation française Try some karaoke with those songs (karaoke is the better way to improve the pronunciation!!!) : Notre Dame de Paris , Belle : https :// bVRlfZ1bV5Q Roméo et Juliette, Aimer : RCmKDK1TYmE Edith Piaf , L’Hymne à l’amour : g0BhwCk0y3A
