( noun or verb) (noun) A compound, union, or mixture of different things… ex: alloy of metals; alloy of people from different cultures. The club was an alloy of different cultures because many people from different backgrounds worked together on the activities. (verb) to reduce the purity of by mixing with a less valuable metal. Although gold is a valuable metal, in order for it to be used in jewelry it must be alloyed with other metals. ALLOY

ANECDOTE:

ANECDOTE (noun) A short, amusing story Visiting grandma’s house always gave us an opportunity to hear her funny anecdotes about her teenage years.

APPURTENANCE:

APPURTENANCE (noun) Something that is an accessory to something, but not an integral (important) part. I requested to have colored neon lights as an appurtenance to my new car.

CHAMPION:

CHAMPION (noun) a winner or someone who is really good at something; someone who fights for a cause. After crossing the finish line first, the athlete celebrated becoming the champion . Nancy Goodman Brinker became a champion for breast cancer research, after her sister Susan G. Komen passed away from breast cancer. (verb) to protect or fight for something. Anti bullying month encourages students to champion against bullying in schools.

CLEFT:

CLEFT (noun) an indentation or opening in something The river began as a trickle of water from a cleft in the rock. (adjective) partially split or divided The superhero wears a mask that conceals his identity, but shows his cleft chin.
