VOLUNTEERING: FIRE DEPARTMENT:

VOLUNTEERING: FIRE DEPARTMENT Mike Randall 10/10/2015

MY PROJECT:

MY PROJECT Volunteering on the Fire Department, I spent time training or on “calls” Fire calls are generally emergencies; include car accidents, structure fires or destruction, for example. Being a fireman requires functional movement capacity and good physical conditioning to operate in high stress environments. It also requires a healthy mental state, e.g., in situations that require quick decision-making or in emergency situations where someone is severely injured or worse.

PICTURES:

PICTURES Most of what we do as Firefighters isn’t supposed to be photographed. You can watch “Chicago Fire” or search Google for those traumatic pictures

WHAT I LEARNED:

WHAT I LEARNED Things I’ve learned since joining the Fire Department: How to operate the different elements of a fire truck, water pump, fire hydrant, etc. How to properly extricate someone from a vehicle How to function with an air mask/pack How different Emergency Affiliations work together: Fire Dept., Police, EMTs, etc.

HOW DOES BEING A FIREFIGHTER LOOK ON AN ACADEMIC RESUME?:

HOW DOES BEING A FIREFIGHTER LOOK ON AN ACADEMIC RESUME? This is a great question. Being on a Fire Department is not something that correlates academically. On a professional resume, I assume it could add an element of “service” or “duty” to an employer’s mind.
