Budget All programs will receive 95% of funds cut from sequestration on your next GAN Current Ask: $52 Million Dollar increase $25 Million increase for SSS Competition $27 Million increase for all other SEQUESTRATION IS NOT OVER; Just on Pause Only on a temporary reprieve for FY 14 & FY 15 It is likely that sequestration will return in FY16. Unless CONGRESS takes further action

Re-Authorization of Higher Education Act:

Re-Authorization of Higher Education Act Good News Bad News Utilizing Pell Grant Eligibility as a factor for determining Low-Income Status Delineating that All Students must be Low-Income Waters Down First Generation Status Institutional Matching Requirement when receiving funds for a TRIO Project Merging/Elimination of Like Programs Particularly Pre-College Programs (UB/ETS/GEAR-UP) Draft is being introduced by the Democrats Good News & Bad News

Upward Bound/Upward Bound Math-Science 100% of UB APR’s submitted on-time Expect GAN’s on following timeline: June 1 start dates – May 31, 2014 September 1 start dates – July 25, 2014 50 th Year Anniversary Celebration Holding a half day symposium on August 21, 2014 in DC Will be able to stream celebration E-mail all program celebration activities to Department Demonstration Projects “Finding the Fit” 250 projects will be participating

Veterans Upward Bound:

Veterans Upward Bound Received approval for VUB APR Electronic APR will be available at the end of June GANs will be out by August 28, 2014

Student Support Services:

Student Support Services Received Slate for Substantial Progress Should be sending out GAN in Early June STILL NO NEWS ABOUT COMPETITION Wishful Dates for Competition Competition: Late December/Early January No Technical Assistance Workshops will be announced until Draft Application is ready Expecting Awards to be done by Early August

Educational Opportunity Center GAN’s will be available on Monday May 19, 2014

Talent Search:
