Arise Let Us Build:

Arise Let Us Build Pre-denominational Christianity

What is a denomination? :

What is a denomination? A "denomination" signifies a division or a segment. A classification. Denominationalism " means devotion to denominational principles or interests. All the religious denominations of our day were established by men, hundreds of years after Jesus Christ established His church in Jerusalem on Pentecost, about 33 A.D. (Acts 2).

Denominationalism is wrong!:

D enominationalism is wrong! Christ established ONE church! ( Matt. 16:18, Acts 20:28, Col. 1:24, Eph. 4:4). Mt 16:8 "And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it . Ac 20:28 " Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood . Col 1:24 I now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up in my flesh what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ, for the sake of His body, which is the church , Eph 4:4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling ;

Denominationalism is wrong!:

Denominationalism is wrong! Christ is not divided. I Cor . 1:10-13 For it has been declared to me concerning you, my brethren, by those of Chloe's household, that there are contentions among you . 12 Now I say this, that each of you says, "I am of Paul," or "I am of Apollos," or "I am of Cephas," or "I am of Christ ." 13 Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?

Denominationalism is wrong!:

Denominationalism is wrong! Christ prayed for Unity! Our Lord did not work against His own prayer for unity by establishing conflicting and contradictory denominations. Joh 17:20 " I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word ; 21 "that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.

Denominationalism is wrong!:

Denominationalism is wrong! Denominationalism retards the salvation of lost souls Denominationalism breeds skepticism and doubt. Different doctrines cause many to lose respect for the Scriptures.

Thinking about the terms! :

Thinking about the terms! Denominationalism - a part of something Non-denominational – usually refers to a group that does not affiliate itself with any major denominational. All- denominational – in reality this has little difference from the non-denominational category in that non-denominational churches in reality are just places where ALL doctrines exist side by side.

What is the Lords’ Church?:

What is the Lords’ Church? Catholic? Jewish? Protestant?

What is the Lords’ Church?:

What is the Lords’ Church? The Lord’s Church is NOT NON-Denominational The Lord’s Church is . . . Pre -Denominational

A little history lesson!:

A little history lesson! The Lord’s Church existed long before man tainted it with the denominational concept. Timeline: Church established in 30/33 AD Apostasy began soon after the 1 st century. By 600 AD errors in doctrine and structure had crept in. One man eventually became elevated to “pope.” 1500’s The Protestant Reformation began (Martin Luther – 1517) A revolt against the Catholic Church. Since then hundreds of denominations have started.

The apostles did not establish denominations!:

The apostles did not establish denominations! The first Christians were NOT denominational. The first Christians looked ONLY to the Word as authority. The first Christians were forbidden to follow men! The first Christians continued in the Apostles’ Doctrine (Acts 2:42) The first believers were Christians ONLY!

The church is PRE-denominational:

The church is PRE-denominational The true church traces its doctrines and practices back to Christ. The true church was founded on Pentecost. The true church existed long before any denomination. The true church does not follow the creeds of men. The true church has Christ as its only head.

The church is PRE-denominational:

The church is PRE-denominational Because . . . . It has a PRE-denominational founder. " And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it," ( Matt. 16:18).

The church is PRE-denominational:

The church is PRE-denominational Because . . . . 2. It has a PRE-denominational head. " And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence" (Col. 1:18). Christ is the Sovereign Head of the church. The pre-denominational church does not recognize any human head or headquarters.

The church is PRE-denominational:

The church is PRE-denominational Because . . . . 3. It has a Pre-denominational creed. We have no book or rule of faith except the bible. We practice only the Scriptures. Speak where the bible speaks! " All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work" (II Tim. 3:16).

The church is PRE-denominational:

The church is PRE-denominational Creeds of Men: Apostles' Creed Nicene Creed (325 A.D.) Athanasian Creed (500 A.D.) Chalcedonian Creed (451 A.D.) Canons on the Council of Orange (529 A.D.) 3rd Council of Constantinople (681 A.D.)

The church is PRE-denominational:

The church is PRE-denominational Because . . . . 4. It has a PRE-denominational name. The church of the New Testament was known as: "The church" (Eph. 3:10, Col. 1:24) "The church of God" (I Cor. 1:2, I Tim. 3:15) "The body of Christ" (I Cor. 12:27, Eph. 4:12) "The church of the Lord" (Acts 20:28) "The church of Christ" (Matt. 16:18, Rom. 16:16)

The church is PRE-denominational:

The church is PRE-denominational Because . . . . 5. The individual members of the church are described in Pre-denominational terms: "Disciples" (Acts 11:26) "Christians" (Acts 11:26, Acts 26:28, I Pet. 4:16) "Saints" (Rom. 1:7, Phil. 1:1, Col. 1:2) " Brethren " (Col. 1:2, James 1:2) "Children of God" (Gal. 3:26, I John 3:1)

The church is PRE-denominational:

The church is PRE-denominational Because . . . . 5. It has a Pre-denominational organization . There is no ecclesiastical hierarchy! No popes, no cardinals, no archbishops, no church councils Each congregation of the Church of Christ is autonomous We have a plurality of qualified elders (Acts 14:23), just as was found in the first century church.

The church is PRE-denominational:

The church is PRE-denominational Because . . . . 6. It has Pre- denominational worship. We have no denominational rites or ceremonies. We seek to worship "in spirit and truth" (John 4:24 ), following the pattern of the first century church. Each Lord's day worship consists of: Lord's Supper (Acts 20:7) Contribution (I Cor. 16:2) A cappella Singing (Eph. 5:19) Praying (Luke 18:1) Preaching (II Tim. 4:2)

The church is PRE-denominational:

The church is PRE-denominational Because . . . . 7. It has Pre-denominational requirements for membership. We ask people to do only what men and women in the New Testament were commanded to do: Hear God's Word (Acts 8:30-31) Believe (Acts 8:37) Repent (Acts 17:30) Confess (Acts 8:37) Be baptized for remission of sins (Acts 2:38)

The church is PRE-denominational:

The church is PRE-denominational After obeying the gospel . . . TO WHAT DENOMINATION DID THE FIRST CENTURY CHRISTIANS BELONG? Catholicism had its beginning in the 7th century . Protestantism had its beginning in the 16th century. New Testament Christians belonged simply to the PRE-denominational church.

The church is PRE-denominational:

The church is PRE-denominational How to return to PRE- DENOMINATIONALISM Christ as only head. Bible as only standard Rejection of all manmade creeds Do bible things in bible ways and call bible things by bible names.

What is Pre-Denominationalism :

What is Pre-Denominationalism It is a grass roots group of people in a local area who have been baptized for the remission of their sins, and who assemble for worship, spread the gospel, develop leadership, take their of their own, and magnify Jesus Christ.
