AGENDA INTRODUCTION HISTORY HOW IT WORKS? BUILDING A WI-FI WI-FI TOPOLOGIES USES ADVANTAGES DISADVANTAGES SCOPE OF WI-FI

INTRODUCTION:

INTRODUCTION Wi-Fi is short of wireless fidelity. It’s a trademark of the Wi-Fi Alliance. Wi-Fi Alliance is the trade association that promotes wireless technology and certifies products.

HISTORY:

HISTORY Back in 1991, Wi-Fi was invented by NCR Corporation. ‘Vic Hayes’ invented the Wi-Fi technology. He is the father of Wi-Fi technology. He and his colleague involved in designing standards such as IEEE 802.11b,802.11a and 802.11n.

HOW IT WORKS?:

HOW IT WORKS?

BUILDING A WI-FI:

BUILDING A WI-FI A Wi-Fi hotspot is created by installing an access point to an internet connection. An access point acts as base station. When Wi-Fi enabled device encounters a hotspot the device can then be connected to internet wirelessly. A single access point can support up to 30 users. Many access points can be connected to each other via Ethernet cables to create a single large network.

WI-FI NETWORK TOPOLOGIES:

WI-FI NETWORK TOPOLOGIES Infrastructure Mode Ad-Hoc Mode(Peer to Peer Topology) Point-to-Multipoint Bridge Mode

USES:

USES We can access PC’s using our mobile phones when connected through Wi-Fi. Can access Printers through mobile phones and PC’s without wires. Can share files with nearby PC through Wi-Fi. Enjoy audio through wireless Speakers. Smart Phones can be turned into Remote Control.

ADVANTAGES:

ADVANTAGES Wi-Fi allows LANs to be deployed without cabling for client devices, typically reducing the costs of network deployment and expansion. Wi-Fi use unlicensed radio spectrum and does not require regulatory approval for individual. Setting up a Wi-Fi network is very low in cost. Wi-Fi is comparatively fast when compared to other modes.

DISADVANTAGES:

DISADVANTAGES Wi-Fi networks that are open can be monitored and used to read and copy data transmitted over the network if proper security is not present. Wi-Fi signals are likely to be adversely affected by climatic conditions. Wi-Fi have limited range. A typical Wi-Fi home router might have a range of 45m indoors and 90m outdoors. Power consumption is fairly high.

SCOPE OF WI-FI :

SCOPE OF WI-FI In few more years, all electronic devices are going to have a built in Wi-Fi. Many colleges and businesses have suitable building layouts that can be wireless to build a unwired network.
