Light in the Darkness:

Light in the Darkness Be careful where you sit…

Matthew 4:16 & John 12:46:

Matthew 4:16 & John 12:46 Christ’s birth was God’s response to a world in darkness The darkness was IN us…and we chose it (Eph.5:8) God dwells in “unapproachable light…” Ezekiel’s temple vision – God is HOLY Our sinful nature is a problem! Why would anyone want to “sit” or “stay” in darkness? Afraid of the light Uncomfortable with what the light reveals Don’t want to be seen by others Don’t have any light (the Gospel has not reached them) Can’t find the light because it is not shining as it should (as true of Israel as of us today…)

John 3: 19-21:

John 3: 19-21 There is something in each of us that prefers the darkness Even though we have been transferred out of the kingdom of darkness, our old nature still longs for it… Why? Is it possible to drift back into darkness?

John 8:12:

John 8:12 A bright light, after darkness, can be blinding Ex. Opening your eyes in the morning But there are degrees of darkness… We are called to FOLLOW the light for good reason If we “sit” in the light, and the light moves elsewhere, our eyes will just become accustomed to the growing darkness We are meant to “walk” in the light (1 John 1:5-7)

Matthew 5:14-16:

Matthew 5:14-16 We are the light of the WORLD, not just the church The light is meant to be visible beyond these walls The world needs guiding lights Creation is longing for someone to take the lead, to step up and be the FIRST to do what is right This is how we “shine like stars in the universe” “There can be no such thing as a secret discipleship, for either the secrecy destroys the discipleship or the discipleship destroys the secrecy” – William Barclay

In Summary:

In Summary Were in the darkness, and the darkness was in us We were all “sitting” and content to “stay” Christ was born into the world to show us the light, and give us a choice Sitting can be dangerous, wherever you are… We are called to FOLLOW the light

Ephesians 5:8:

Ephesians 5:8 “Live as children of light…..”
