Media Effects Media offer entertainment, culture, news, sports, and education. They are an important part of our lives and have much to teach. But some of what they teach may not be what we want children to learn . Television Good Effects Bad Effects Violence From media violence children learn to behave aggressively toward others. They are taught to use violence instead of self-control to take care of problems or conflicts

Slide 18:

Analysis by PU students:- 61% of TV shows are violent Few shows emphasize an anti-violence theme 40% of violent scenes on TV include humor 54% of the violence is lethal 51% of TV violence shows no pain

Slide 19:

Video Games:- Positive effects Video game playing introduces children to computer technology. Games can give practice in following directions. Some games provide practice in problem solving and logic. Games can provide practice in use of fine motor and spatial skills. Games can provide occasions for parent and child to play together. Players are introduced to information technology. Some games have beneficial applications with patients. Games are entertaining and fun.

Negative effects:

Negative effects Game environments are often based on plots of violence, aggression and gender favoritism. Over-dependence on video games could foster social isolation, as they are often played alone. Many games only offer an arena of weapons, killings, kicking, stabbing and shooting. Academic achievement may be negatively related to over-all time spent playing video games. Many games do not offer action that requires independent thought or creativity. Games can confuse reality and fantasy. Playing violent video games may be related to aggressive behavior

Internet :

Internet The Internet has a significant potential for providing children and youth with access to educational information, and can be compared with a huge home library. Benefits of the Internet : • Near limitless information resource • High degree of availability and affordability in most communities in the western world • An asset for research or homework • A communication tool for teachers and university professors with their students • Rapid and inexpensive communication via e-mail and video linkage • Access by the disabled to much that may otherwise be unavailable: • Through technology that makes computer use possible

Slide 22:

Adverse effects: Underage children may accidentally or by design access pornographic sites Predators have access to minors through unsupervised use of chat rooms and e-mail Loss of inhibitions normally experienced when face-to-face, promoting sexual exchanges and promiscuity On-line gambling Potential for plagiarism in school work Promotion of hatred or violence through Web sites targeting a specific group, such as women, homosexuals, and religious or ethnic groups Violence through video games, song lyrics and on-line bullying, access to hazardous materials or information on making weapons.

Alcohols and drugs:

Alcohols and drugs Messages about tobacco and alcohol are everywhere in media. Teens who see a lot of ads for beer, wine, liquor, and cigarettes admit that it influences them to want to drink and smoke the three most advertised cigarette brands are also the most popular ones smoked by teens.

Slide 25:

Suggestions Do encourage each other Be practical Take help from Quran and sunnah Distribution of ideologies in the youth Do have patience to face the difficulties Do hate the deed not the character himself Prove and cash your skill Right man over the right place Youth should be clear about their future Be at arm length from the bad company! Do not make your parent as a role model for you

Slide 26:

Suggestions Cont… How we can stand against western culture! Do not break the statue of mud but the statue of mind! Do not walk in parallel with any and ideology first think! What is our today responsibility Problem should be solved form the very first day! So don’t delay Do ask question! Build-up confidence Courageous
