Use : Used to + bare infinitive:

Use : Used to + bare infinitive To contrast past situations with present situations. Geoff used to like science but now he wants to study languages. To talk about frequent actions and events in the past. I used to cycle every day. For frequent action and events in present we use: She usually arrives late to class.

Careful!!:

Careful !! We can use the past simple instead of used to, but we cannot always use used to instead of past simple I went swimming last Saturday NOT I used to go swimming last Saturday. Used to does not refer to single past events.

PowerPoint Presentation:

We can say : I didn’t use to like tea, I always drank coffee . OR I never used to like tea, I always drank coffee . We can use NEVER USED TO to instead of DIDN’T USED TO.

Use: used to + ing:

Use: used to + ing This structure means “to be accustomed to doing something.” When we were in 4 th grade we used to have lunch at 12.05 . (This was a situation before, we no longer have to eat lunch at 12.05) We are used to having lunch at 12.45 (We are accustomed to it because we’ve been doing it for some time).
