HISTORY PROJECT ON Industrial Revolution

INTRODUCTION:

The INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION ushered in a new era of ‘textile’ and ‘agriculture’ industry. The revolution started in ENGLAND and then spread to all parts of Europe. During this period, ‘machines’ came into being. Elaborate machinery meant that goods could be produced in immensely large quantities . This reduced the price of most commodities. Many goods or services which were earlier within the reach of rich people, could now be enjoyed by millions. INTRODUCTION

TEXTILE REVOLUTION :

James Hargreaves ’ spinning jenny and Richard Arkwright’s water frame changed the textile industry forever. Samuel Crompton patented the spinning mule(a combination of the spinning jenny & the water frame) in 1769. This lead to the erection of many cotton mills across Europe. Similar technology was subsequently used to spin worsted yarn for various textiles and flax for linen. The cotton revolution began in Derby, but it soon spread to other parts of England.
