Workshops Tools for Trustees: The Workshop brought to your library system or nearby location WebJunction Workshops online and FREE to Georgia trustees (2 per year) create an account FOGL workshops offered in spring and fall

Associations & Networking : 

Associations & Networking ALTAFF (Association of Library Trustees, Advocates, Friends & Foundations) A division of the American Library Association FOGL (Friends of Georgia Libraries) A statewide voice for Georgia’s libraries Continuing education workshops for Friends and advocates TRUSTEES-L Discussion List A forum to find out about opportunities and share ideas with other Georgia public library board members

Advocacy : 

Advocacy Local Level It’s all about relationships! Work with your library director & Friends State Level Participate in Library Day at State Capitol Federal Level How to Get Involved Consider ALA Library Day in Washington (also virtual)

On-the-Job Training : 

On-the-Job Training Listening Asking Questions Board Discussions topics could include technology trends, censorship, library values, community changes “Trustee Trouble” Videos learn along with Dan, the new trustee, as he muddles through his first year on the library board—short segments, perfect for using at board meetings

Self-Assessment : 

Self-Assessment Ask your director or fellow board members for feedback. Use individual and board self-assessment tools annually. Take the online survey When you reach the summary page, click on “Show replies,” in the first box, find your name and click “Find.” Print your results page or make note of the top 3 areas of need.
