A Brief Introduction In order to promote art and culture in Kolkata, The Birla Academy of Art & Culture was instituted by the art enthusiasts and leaders Shri and Smt. B.K. Birla in the year 1967. The Academy patronises the development of visual and performing art in the city and also globally and has become extremely popular for its approaches in the cultural, artistic and education activities.

activities of the academy The Academy primarily focuses on : Collecting , preserving and displaying museum objects Organizing cultural performances Hosting exhibitions of Indian and International Art objects Educational programmes of varied nature Currently it exhibits the artworks of many renowned artists of India and abroad and also hosts a series of workshops and educational and cultural performances and seminars and many other kinds of events from time to time.


Achievements The Academy is proud to host a good number of International events from time to time. The most memorable and noteworthy here is the amazing show of the Famous French Sculptor Rodin which proved to be a landmark exhibition for Calcutta. Other notable exhibits included the works of Henry Moore and the Graphics of Picasso and Russian festival shows, German Expressionist’s graphics, French designs and also American, Chinese and British porcelains among others.


Achievements Remarkable American plays such as “Driving Miss Daisy ” and “Once upon a Mattress” had been organized at the Academy premises w ith the active co-operation of Indian Council for Cultural Relations and the U.S.I.S .
