The importance of PDHPE in primary schools Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE) is one of the six key learning areas in the NSW primary curriculum. The study of PDHPE is vital because the concepts help to improve the health and wellbeing of each student, both now and in their futures.

Syllabus :

Syllabus According to the PDHPE K-6 syllabus, there are five essential skills that students should develop from PDHPE: These skills are not only essential throughout primary school, but will contribute to the positive wellbeing of students throughout their entire lives. Benefits of Physical Education (PE):

Benefits of Physical Education (PE) According to the Department of Health website (2014), regular physical activity is an important contributor to good overall health, including promoting healthy weight and reducing chronic disease risk. For Children (5 to 12 years) and Young People (13 to 17 years), being physically active every day can have: Social benefits: Opportunities for fun with friends and family. Reduced anti-social behaviour, including aggressive and disruptive actions. Helping to develop cooperation and teamwork skills. Emotional and intellectual benefits: Improved self-esteem and confidence. Help with management of anxiety and stress. Improved concentration. Health benefits: Promotion of healthy growth and development. Strong muscles and bones. Improved physical fitness, including coordination and movement skills. Reduced risk of disease and unhealthy weight gain.

Benefits of Personal Development & Health (PDH) * Most Australian children are healthy and doing well, but we can always do better. * A child's health and wellbeing depends on what happens to them as individuals, as part of a family, as members of communities and within Australian society as a whole. This includes their experiences at school, including learning PDH. * There is sound evidence that prevention initiatives early in life are highly effective. PDH Education is prevention, and can improve outcomes for children. * The health, behaviour and attitudes of young people today are crucial to the health of the future Australia, and PDH can help develop these positively.

Our classroom:

Our classroom PE helps contribute to daily physical activity in children. PE supports children’s development of motor/movement and active lifestyle skills. PDH covers learning of nutrition, physical activity, safety , self-awareness , and much more. PDH helps ensure positive development of children’s health and wellbeing. PDHPE can be the most beneficial and enjoyable aspect of school. So make sure PDHPE continues to be a key component of your child’s education!
