Bicentennial Monument in Victoria Called ‘Twa Zwazo’ by the natives of Seychelles the Bicentennial Monument is one of the key landmarks in the city. Translated as ‘Three Birds’ the monument is three pairs of curved white wings that represent the European Asian and African heritage of Seychelles. It was erected in 1978 and is also a symbol of the indigenous birds of the islands. Arul Mihu Navasakthi Vinayagar in Victoria This Hindu temple is located in the city with a beautiful backdrop of rolling green hills. It was built in 1992 and it is one of the newer historical sites in the city. It is the only Hindu temple located on Seychelles and it is open to the public. It was named for the Hindu god of safety and prosperity and the ornate tower is one of the most colorful in the nation. St. Paul’s Cathedral in Victoria Replacing the historic church that was destroyed by a cyclone during the middle of the 19th century this cathedral was rebuilt and remodeled in 2001. Consecration of the church occurred in 2004 and even though it is a simple church it is beautiful and should be visited at least once. Mission Lodge in Mount Fleuri Located in the town of Mount Fleuri this site was originally the site of Venn’s Town. It was built to be a school designed to educate the first black slaves that gained their freedom. The ruins of the first school are located on the site and visitors to the site will love the views of the mountains and the sea that can be found from the site’s vantage point.
