Sam’s experience with Social Learning:

Sam’s experience with Social Learning

PowerPoint Presentation:

Hi Sam, it’s a great pleasure meeting you, I have been to Paris on an assignment. Hi Tim, how are you? Haven't heard back from you since long, where have you been? Yes Sam, indeed it was. So what are you doing now and how is your work going on? That’s really great Tim. It must have been a great experience to work at the client site.

PowerPoint Presentation:

OK, Isn't it frustrating to work in the same role for so many years? Yes it is. I am planning to talk to my career mentor in this regard very soon. Sam, if I remember correctly, you were working with the XXX project team when we last met some three years back. So what are you doing now? Yes Tim. I am still working with the same team. My job role hasn’t changed much

PowerPoint Presentation:

I really need to think seriously about my career. I and Tim joined the organization in the same year. In my current role I do not see any growth prospect. Huh!! I have been working on the same solutions and with the same set of tools. I should reach out to my Career mentor without any delay.

PowerPoint Presentation:

Hello Sam, How are you? Please tell me how can I help you to achieve your career goals Hello Celina, I am okay, thanks. How are you? As discussed, I have always aspired to be an architect, ever since I joined the organization. Can you please guide me to achieve my goals? Sam, can you reach out to one of my team member, Robin? He is an extremely brilliant guy. He can help you to find a suitable guide. Oh, sure, that would be really great. Thanks Celina!

PowerPoint Presentation:

Hey Sam, how are you? Hey Rob, nice to meet you. As discussed over chat yesterday, I need your help to find a guide and also widen my network That’s pretty easy. All you need to do is: Firstly, Find experts within the organization, secondly Stay connected with the experts and thirdly Extend your network Okay!! but it sounds so complicated?

PowerPoint Presentation:

There are two options for finding experts : Option 1 is find People in org directory This sounds simple. But how do I stay connected with the experts And Option 2 is Go to collaboration site Click on Profiles on the top menu Search for people by: Keyword, or do an Advanced Search or Name and add them to your network by clicking on + Invite to My Network Good point Sam. Unless you stay connected with the experts, you will not be benefitted from your networking group. Yes, I agree and what's the trick for that?

PowerPoint Presentation:

To stay connected with the experts of your network, you can visit the profile of people in your network and review their blogs, files, and bookmarks of their communities. Ok, you mean that I can keep myself updated by reviewing the blogs, forums of their communities. Extending your network is an easy task. All you need to do is check the network of people with whom you are connected, if you find anything in common with them, invite them to your network. So its like sharing common interests and skills with people of your network. Thanks a lot Rob, for all the information that you gave me.

PowerPoint Presentation:

When our org has equipped us with such great networking tools we should use them and take maximum advantage of it. I learned new tools through Simulation based training sessions. I visited the communities of people in my network and joined them. It helped me to connect with Subject Matter Experts and seek their advice. I joined several Communities to expand my knowledge and network. I joined in discussion threads and shared my thoughts on Wikis. I came to know about several web resources through Wiki or Community Bookmarks. Sam’s social learning journey

Found a mentor Toby, a senior architect, I connect with him regularly through conference calls, chat, Meetings, or virtual meetings to enhance my skills. My social networking skills have made me the most sought after, active and well informed member of the team. I regularly conduct training sessions to make my team members aware of the advantages of Social Learning I am on cloud 9, within a span of six months, I am connected with over 500 colleagues across the globe
