INTRODUCTION Aircraft files at some height from the ground At what height the aircraft is flying should be known For this reason a device is developed which will provide the information of altitude from the ground level That device is named as “ Altitude proximity sensor ”or APS To see the information provided by APS and compare it with GPS , a GUI is developed

What is APS ?:

What is APS ? APS is a device based on frequency modulated Continuous wave (FMCW) RADAR FMCW radars operate on the imaging principle It break up the background into small segments and then measure changes in the signal return from each cell to detect small targets

Working of APS ?:

Working of APS ? APS will be mounted on bottom of an aircraft

Working of APS :

Working of APS APS is capable of measuring range from 200 meters to 4000 meters from the ground level APS can provide information about Range, Range Frequency, Doppler Frequency, and SNR. Data from APS is received at 1 KHz rate To validate or check the data coming from APS some reference is required so, G3OM (GPS, GLONASS, GAGAN on a Module) receiver is used as a reference

G3OM RECIVER A G3OM receiver will be mounted on the top of the aircraft which will receive the data from satellites At a time minimum 4 satellites should be locked to get the exact information The G3OM receiver is in the form of a card


G3OM RECEIVER As soon as some excitation voltage is given it will provide some information Data provided at the rate of 1 Hz From the information provided by the G3OM the required information is extracted and displayed on the GUI

Graphical user interface (GUI) :

Graphical user interface (GUI) Python is used to create a GUI which can display the data of APS and GPS both Python is a general purpose, high level language “ Pygtk ” library of python is used to create a GUI Pygtk or GTK+ library provides all kind of visual elements and utilities for GUI PyGTK applications are multiplatform able to run on Linux, Windows, MacOS X and other platforms


EXTRACTION OF SERIAL DATA The data from APS and GPS is coming serially at different rates so, that should be synchronized Serial data is received from the RS232 or USB port and then stored to buffer From buffer the data will be directly displayed on the GUI The data at GUI gets updated continuously At the same time the data is also logged in a text file


PARTS OF GUI GUI has different parts, which are: Container:- main window Textviews :-  used to display information received ScrolledWindow :- hold the Textview Buttons:- help in controlling the flow of the software Label:- describe the different portions



Future scope :

Future scope Synchronizing threads in an efficient manner. Learning and introducing Real Time patches.   Modifying the GUI to take information like port name, baud rate, parity etc. directly from user Introducing handshaking with hardware.   Adding statistical function like plot, deviation etc.
