Why it makes Sense to Trust the Bible :

Why it makes Sense to Trust the Bible 4. The Ancient Past – Does it Hold Up?

Test Case for the Bible – Origins of Man :

Test Case for the Bible – Origins of Man The Bible is unusual in that it explains the origin of man and civilisation Always with such claims, the further you go away from available knowledge, the more hopelessly wrong the claims are. What about the Bible? Does its claims fit in with available with what we now know today?

Where does the Bible say Civilisation came From? :

Where does the Bible say Civilisation came From?

The First Start.. :

The First Start.. ..Was the Garden of Eden (Genesis 1-3) It was certainly in the Middle East. David Rohl postulates it was in North Iraq – this will not be far wrong, so we will take it as a workable theory in the absence of proven fact.

The Second Start…. :

The Second Start…. ..Was when the Ark rested on Mount Ararat. This is in East Turkey

The Bible View of the Origins of Man :

The Bible View of the Origins of Man Eden Ararat

Where are the earliest signs of….? :

Where are the earliest signs of….? Domesticated animals Cultivated crops Language Human Migration Wine Metallurgy Oldest Living thing The Flood Civilisation Genetic Analysis Population

The Origins of Animal Domestication :

The Origins of Animal Domestication Toe bones of a 10,000 year-old goat. The unfused bone on the right is a male – killed before it reached maturity. Goat is the earliest domesticated livestock species.

Found at… :

Found at… Ganj Dareh, Iran – site of the earliest domestication of animals (not far from the Bible origin of man)

The Origin of Wheat :

The Origin of Wheat Huen at al (1997), Science, 278, 1312 DNA Fingerprinting. “It has been hypothesized that one single human group may have domesticated all primary crops of the region.” This is in Eastern Turkey

“The Cradle of Agriculture” :

“The Cradle of Agriculture” Lev-Yadun et al (2000) Science, 288, 1602. “agriculture was based on three cereals, four pulses and a fiber crop….genetic evidence suggesting that these crops were domesticated only once. “The core area.. seemed a center for innovation” Architecture, images, objects, tools, sickles, grinding stones,.. fit this view.

Domestication of Animals/Use of Crops :

Domestication of Animals/Use of Crops “Extending outward from the land bounded by the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers, this region was the center of domestication for an unparalleled number of plant and animal species, including barley, oats, and wheat among the cereal grains, and the "big four" domesticated animals: cattle, goats, pigs, and sheep.” American Museum of Natural History East Anatolian Red

The First Farmers and their Languages :

The First Farmers and their Languages Diamond & Bellwood (2003) Science, 300, 597. Carbon-14 dating Earliest people

The First Farmer and their Languages :

The First Farmer and their Languages One main theory is based on a proto-Indo-European language from the Fertile Crescent, about 7000BC, where language started. Diamond & Bellwood (2003) Science, 300, 597

Migrations of a Human Gut Bacteria – Helicobacter pylori :

Migrations of a Human Gut Bacteria – Helicobacter pylori Falush et al (2003) Science, 299, 1582 Genetically variable – 50x more than humans. Used to trace human migrations It shows the origin of man as from the area of Iraq

The Oldest Wine :

The Oldest Wine Residue on a potsherd was identified as tartaric acid, which occurs naturally only in grapes. And traces of tree resin that was included as a preservative. It is dated from about 5000BC.

The Location of the Oldest Wine :

The Location of the Oldest Wine Hajji Firus Tepe, Iran’s Zagros Mountains Near Location of Mount Ararat Noah got drunk in Genesis 9:21, near Mount Ararat!

The Origin of Metallurgy :

The Origin of Metallurgy Gold, ca 6000 BC Copper, ca 4200 BC Silver, ca 4000 BC Lead, ca 3500 BC Tin, ca 1750 BC Iron, smelted 1500 BC Earliest known metallurgy was the Mesopotamians Gold know in Genesis 2 Bronze and iron in Genesis 4 This is also the order of metals/empires in Nebuchadnezzar’s image

The Oldest Living Thing :

The Oldest Living Thing The oldest living thing is a Bristlecone pine tree named Methuselah. It is 4,723 years old and is in California. The previous oldest was 4950 years old named Prometheus, but was destroyed by scientists accidently. This age takes us back near to the time of the flood, where the Bible says that all earlier life was destroyed. This fits in with the Bible account.

Flood Traditions around the World :

Flood Traditions around the World These fit the Biblical account of the flood with amazing detail.

The Oldest Civilisation – Sumeria? :

The Oldest Civilisation – Sumeria? First wheel, First writing, First potters wheel First Cities and First wars Recognised as first civilisation in world About 4000-3000BC But where was it?

Before Sumeria - the Land of Urartu :

Before Sumeria - the Land of Urartu Urartu is refered to in Sumerian texts as a place of inhabitation and where the oldest man lived. Occasionally there was war between the two. Gold found in this area. Appears the Sumerians originally came from this area. Urartu

The Land of Urartu :

The Land of Urartu This is the place of the origin of… Mud Pottery Gold and copper beaten. Also silver and bronze Knowledge of navigation and astronomy Knowledge of irrigation This comes from north Iraq, near East Turkey.

Relics from Urartu - the Tree of Life :

Relics from Urartu - the Tree of Life Of the few things found, they found pictures of the tree of life, with cherubim!!!! Of all things, why would they find this? This fits in amazingly well with the Bible origins

Evidence from Genetic Analysis :

Evidence from Genetic Analysis We will look at a few examples. There are more are more genetic findings awaiting discovery. We will look at - Jews / Arabs Human races Neanderthals

Jews and Arabs found to be brothers :

Jews and Arabs found to be brothers Genetic analysis of Jews, Arabs and other people show that Jews and Arabs are surprisingly closely related. This would be expected if the Bible was accurate. Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, (2000), Vol 97, 6769

Jews and non-Jews: Genetic Analysis :

Jews and non-Jews: Genetic Analysis Genetic analysis of different Jewish and non-Jewish groups, showing they are closely related. Pal=Palestinians Leb=Lebanese Syr=Syrian Nea=Near Eastern Jews Sar=Saudi Arabian Dru=Israeli Druze Rom=Roman Jews Kur=Kurdish Jews Ash=Ashkenazim Naf-North African Jews Yem=Yemenite Jews Tur=Turks

The Bible Family Tree of the Jew and Arab :

The Bible Family Tree of the Jew and Arab Jews and Arabs come from “..a common Middle Eastern source population several thousand years ago.” Quote from article in PNAS, 2000 This would be expected if the Bible was true. Estimated time of Abraham – 2100 BC

Genetic Analysis of Human Genome :

Genetic Analysis of Human Genome Differences between human races (Negroid, Caucasian, Mongloid) constitutes only 7-10% of that found within races. Body hair and pigmentation are controlled by the same gene cluster “It is believed that the low level of differentiation of regional population …suggests a recent origin of humans from one ancestral population.” Tetushkin (2001) Russian Journal of Genetics, 37, 853 This is as predicted by scriptures.

Modern Man and Neandertals :

Modern Man and Neandertals Neandertal DNA has been analysed using mitochondrial DNA from Neandertal bones “ Our analysis shows that Neandertal-Human and Human-Human pairwise distance distributions overlap more than what previous studies suggested.” This suggests that Neandertals are not very different from modern man. There are other unexpected findings Gutierrez et al (2002) Molecular Biology & Evolution, 19, 1359 This fits in with the Bible account of origins, indicating that there is only a single origin of man.

Today’s Population of the World indicates the human population was only 1000s of years old :

Today’s Population of the World indicates the human population was only 1000s of years old Human Population Doubling time is approximately constant From 1650 to 1950 it is about 175 years Using 175 years, this takes us back 30 doublings to 3300 BC This is the time of Noah’s son! This would be predicted if the Bible was accurate.

Today’s Population of the Jews indicates the Jewish population was only 1000s of years old :

Today’s Population of the Jews indicates the Jewish population was only 1000s of years old If Jacob lived around 1170BC 16 million Jews in 1930 prior to Hitler This represents a doubling time of 161 years. This is a reasonable number and fits in with predictions from scripture

What has the Origins data shown? :

What has the Origins data shown? Neandertal man is very like modern man. Dates are speculative pre-5000 years old Civilisation came from area of Modern Armenia/Iraq Great centre of innovation and knowledge It was a sudden appearance Tradition of Urartu supports Genesis Eden story Flood traditions around the world are in detail and fit the Bible account Population studies show that flood timing is plausible Genetics indicates that human migration to the world occurred from this centre Language studies support this route of human migration Human races are actually very closely related genetically. This data suggests that man developed from a single human group Genetic analysis reveals that Jews and Arabs are closely related and come from a single ancestor thousands of years ago Jewish population studies support this

Summary :

Summary The Bible account of the origins of man and his civilisation matches the facts extremely well. We have examined many unusual and different areas of study. This is incredible. How could the Bible be right, unless the Bible was speaking the truth?
