Superhero film posters relevant to my trailer

PowerPoint Presentation:

I find the posters for ‘Super’ very intriguing. The features are cartoonish, more hand-drawn than comic book. Such as the pull quote ‘Shut up crime!’ is jocular and fairly absurd. Yet what is most interesting is the gritty realism involved, the red background is designed to look grubby and scruffy, exemplifying the poster as hand-drawn. Moreover, the title name and actor names are also hand-written. Ultimately, I believe this poster Epitomises the sheer amateurish of the protagonist; ‘The Crimson Bolt’. I find the posters for ‘Kick-Ass’ explosive and dramatic. The poster fits exactly to a comic book style, the vast amount of bright colour and fighting pose of the protagonist emphasises the action involved in the film. Furthermore, this poster is just as ambiguous as ‘Super’ – a primary component in superhero films.

Ideas for my trailer Superhero posters such as ‘Kick-Ass’ seem incredibly relevant for my fictional film, as no interesting background is used and instead only the protagonist stands out against the foreground. This effectively links to the representation of superheroes in comic books, it feels like the poster is almost a comic panel. However, over superhero posters keep a realistic background to emphasise the overall mood of the film, such as the dark overtones exemplified with the ‘Watchmen’ poster. Furthermore, I have discovered thriller posters include more leading information to a plot than most superhero posters. For example, the ‘Eagle Eye’ poster includes a variety of scenes and typifies the key theme of the film; technology.
