Standing up for women in Advertisements By: Hannah Frey

Jean Kilbourne Organization :

Jean Kilbourne Organization Our activism project dealt with women in advertisements. Jean’s work focuses on the way that women are portrayed in the media and how they are often dehumanized and looked at in a derogatory way.

Purpose :

Purpose The purpose of our activism project was to show the different magazine companies that the message they are sending to women, especially young adults, is unhealthy and can cause many problems. We also wanted tell them that the models look unhealthy because they have a very unattainable body type.

MY part.. :

MY part.. Help organize the different types of magazines that would make the biggest impression.. Take pictures Put all of the inserts into the mail for them to be shipped to their respective homes  to get the message out.

What I would change :

What I would change If I could go back and change an aspect of this project, I would most likely change the timing that we did started and completed the project. I would also change the the amount of inserts that we had to give into the mail box to send to the different magazine companies.

What I would keep the same :

What I would keep the same I would keep the organization that we had the same The group of people that we had for our project was amazing and we all gave equal parts into the project.

How does this relate to women’s studies? :

How does this relate to women’s studies? This relates to women’s studies in many different ways. It is taking a stand for the way that we are portrayed in the media. This project also will benefit many people by saying that you should love your body the way that you are.

Was it successful? :

Was it successful? This was successful because everyone showed up. Everyone was passionate about what we were doing because we share the same views on the way that women are portrayed in the media.
