DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD 1&2

PowerPoint Presentation:

My Front Cover image The whole theme of my magazine is identifying the business man behind a successful R‘n’B and Rap artist/band. Nonetheless I took a juxtaposed photo; on an Ipad with my model dressed in the stereotypical mis en scene of rapper – baseball hat, rugged look (unshaven beard). I then dressed my model with a smart blazer, to give the impression of a business. The use of an Ipad demonstrates my use of modern technology. Coverlines This helps reader not only giving them an insight on what is featured in the magazine, but draws their attention through the quote from the artist positioned in the centre. As mentioned on my blog, a unique selling point of known magazines is creating a magazine which contains controversy moreover a controversial quote would definitely grab consumers attention. Competition Placing a competition on the front cover of my magazine is one way in which my magazine interacts with my readers . In order for my readers to participate in the competition they have to scan the bar code with their smart phone. My research showed that a large majority of my target audience own a Blackberry, therefore using a blackberry code highlights my magazine use of technology and the involvement of my readers. Owners of a blackberry; as of:- 2010 – 47,452 2011 – 62600 Currently (2012) – 79,335 It has been predicted; as of:- 2015 – 122,864

Here is a flat plan of my magazine front cover. Before making my music magazine I had to research other well-known magazine to analyse forms and conventions in helping me put together a layout. I decided to look at Even though these Kerrang varies from the genre of my magazine R’n’B, they all give me creative ideas. I took their conventions and structure and developed them into my front cover. As you can see there are many similarities… Coverline

PowerPoint Presentation:

Masthead My masthead is bold capital letters, instead of following the theme of ‘The Source’ and ‘Vibe’, I have decided to add an effect just like Kerrang (a blue gradient effect). Expressions The model I chose to base my magazine on effectively fulfils the playful look of an artist . Having cover lines (left , right and centre of the magazine) and the competition and bar code at the left bottom are all conventions I saw on most magazines (Kerrang & Vibe). Coverline Just like ‘Kerrang’ and ‘The Source’ I decided to go with the clear white background to give my magazine a clean professional look.

PowerPoint Presentation:

My research shows me that most successful magazines include a strapline . This seems to be a useful unique selling point as it often mentions the featured artists in the magazine . I took this convention and adapted it to my magazine ‘Exclusive on-set report. The making of the hardest 12 things Rick Ross misses in the film’. To develop my cover line like successful magazine I positioned the name of my artist at the centre of my magazine . Moreover drawing the attention of my reader to my image and enticing them with short information . The bar code is an important convention that every magazine include. The form of bar code was inspired by Vibe magazine as their bar code is positioned at the bottom left of the magazine in a horizontal way. Placing my bar code horizontal on my front cover gives me more space to position my cover lines, competition etc.

The format of Billboard magazine stood out the most for me, however to me it lack some aspects which I liked from ‘Kerrang’; because I want my logo to become recognisable among my readers. I have made it large and bold at the top of the page in order to draw attention. At the bottom of the page I added a small section to inform potential readers how to find further information about the featured interviews and concerts, along with a persuasive paragraph on how and why to subscribe online. In ‘Kerrang ‘ a large image is place around the centre with 5 images round it , whereas NME uses one image drawing the readers attention to the main article featured, making it a successful format. However I preferred Kerrang’s format because it shows that the magazine has more to give then just one main article.

PowerPoint Presentation:

I used the form on NME content title and developed it into my own content page – its states that the magazine is sold on a weekly basis . However I altered my content page replacing the word ‘INSIDE’ with the masthead of my magazine. In order to the name of my magazine more recognisable. The content page of NME differs I made my masthead larger than ‘This Week’ to avoid the words looking cramped and unprofessional Along the bottom of my content page I added my magazine subscription information with my website address for the magazine plus a competition in the form of NME subscription box. The structure I used in making my competition box is the form of which NME sometimes creates their subscription box (yellow and white) however I altered mine making it blue and white in order for it to fit in with my house style .

PowerPoint Presentation:

Both magazines feature an image of the artist/band on a full page of the double page spread; both fully drawing the attention of the reader to the feature artist/band at the same time promoting the artist and band. Both Kerrang and Q have opted for an article rather than an interview, although Q’s article is slightly longer than Kerrang which is two columns – this tends to keep the layout neat and creates more room for text . Drop caps are used in both articles – draws attentions to the opening paragraph. It also looks stylish and professional.

PowerPoint Presentation:

Like most double page spread I place the image of my artist on the left side of a full double page spread. I placed the title of the interview at the top of the page instead of in between my article like a majority of magazines do. In order for my reader to read it first and be encourage to read the entire article. Since my interview is based on his upcoming success, I used the form of Kerrang information box to list a few of his songs along with reviews on the lyrics. No drop cap

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

PowerPoint Presentation:

I feel that my music magazine represent all races and genders that are in love or have any source of interest in R’n’B and Rap However my billboard does reveal all hit songs in all genres. I believe the music and artists featured in my magazine mirrors this. The magazine may have a more of a masculine tone , but it does not entirely focus on that but promote female rappers and singers . Artists such as Rihanna or Drake and bands like Cherish is what I believe my target audience listens to. Like mentioned before my billboard includes all hit songs from all genre of music so I am not ruling out rock lovers or indie lovers. However my magazine does not represent social groups that are into grime music as grime artists are not promoted anywhere in magazine.
