Accident Prevention

The following are first aid treatments in case of accidents::

The following are first aid treatments in case of accidents: Fire : Small fire (such as in beaker or in flask): First, turn off the gas, then attempt to smother the fire with an asbestos pad or wet towel. If this fails, use the fire extinguisher provided for this use.

Slide 3:

Clothing on fire: Smother fire by covering yourself with a wet jacket or by rolling on the floor. Phosphorus or Sodium on fire: Put it out by throwing sand on it. In general, do not use water. This will only result in spreading the fire. Cuts: First, wash with water thoroughly with running water, then apply 50% alcohol of tincture of iodine, bandage with sterile gauze. Do not continue to use iodine in subsequent dressings. Burns will result. Never cover directly with adhesive tape.

Chemicals:

Chemicals Acid in the eye : Wash thoroughly with running water, then splash the eye area in 2% sodium bicarbonate solution. Dry with sterile gauze and put several drops of olive oil into the eye.

Alkali in the eye: Wash thoroughly with running water, then splash with saturated solution of boric acid. Dry with sterile gauze and put drops of olive oil into the eye. Note: Never use a strong acid or base to neutralize each other on your clothing or body.

Burns:

Burns For minor skin burns: Immediately plunge the burned area into cold water for several minutes.

Slide 7:

Acid burns: Wash first with running water and then with saturated sodium bicarbonate solution. Cover for about ten minutes with solid bicarbonate solution. Wash off, dry with sterile gauze and go to the clinic for further treatment. Alkali burns: Wash first with running water and then with saturated boric acid solution. Cover for about ten minutes with solid boric acid. Wash off, dry with sterile gauze apply carbonated Vaseline.
