Slide 1:

Bacteriophage cycles By Devorah

Slide 2:

This is a BACTERIOPHAGE! It is NOT a bacteria

Slide 3:

A bacteriophage is a VIRUS that attacks bacteria

Slide 4:

When a bacteriophage enters a bacteria cell, it can go into two cycles: Lysogenic cycle 2) Lytic cycle

Lysogenic Cycle :

Lysogenic Cycle

Slide 6:

There are 3 Steps: The phage attaches to bacteria cell and inserts its DNA into the bacteria cell 2. The phage’s DNA mixes with the bacteria DNA 3. Host cell reproduces

Slide 7:

Let’s see how that works…

Slide 8:

Bacteria Cell Bacteria DNA

Slide 9:

Bacteria DNA mixes with viral DNA

Slide 10:

And reproduces…

Slide 11:

and reproduces more

Slide 12:

In the lysogenic cycle, more copies are made until it gets triggered to enter the Lytic Cycle

Lytic Cycle :

Lytic Cycle

Slide 14:

4 Steps: The phage attaches to bacteria cell and inserts its DNA into the bacteria cell 2. The phage’s DNA takes over the bacteria cell 3. The phage’s DNA starts to make new phages in the cell 4. The cell membrane breaks which releases all the new phages to infect neighboring cells.

Slide 15:

Let’s see how that works…

Slide 19:

Innocent bacteria cells Phages that were just released and ready to attack!

Slide 20:

Look familiar?

Slide 21:

Ok I’m done. How do you end a movie….. I guess… Cough cough “Thanks for watching and this movie was brought to you by…. Ummm…me”
