Break out the hot dogs the cold drinks the ball game and the tanning lotion. With electricity bills shooting up what with all the ACs and coolers we suddenly so desperately yearn for there is still a fun side to summer as well – sunbathing pool parties cold and creamy smoothies and of course the summer holidays Now is the perfect time to pack those bags and jet off to a place that is relatively cooler. If you don’t think a trip to another hemi- sphere is needed just to cool off then a small tour close by can also be quite therapeutic and give you that much needed break. And if you’re looking to spend quality time with family espe- cially your kids this time of year is the right time to do it. Most schools are closed and kids attend summer camps to keep themselves busy through the day but make sure you spend as much time as you can with them now before they get back to their hectic school schedules extracur- riculars and the long list of tuition classes. Also keep in mind that with the heat and sweat attacking us all in full force a lot of attention should be given to our health at this time because summers are the worst season for the digestive system. Make sure to gulp down loads of water through the day to stay hydrated along with incorporating various water-based foods into your diet. And of course do not miss out on the deliciousness of aam panna Bale ka sharbat than- dai and other childhood summer drinks – feeling a teeny bit nostal- gic are we Ah how time flies. Summer is also a great time for all the fashionistas to experiment and try out new looks. Women can start with chopping off their hair to sport short and chic hair- dos and adding in loads of colours to the layers to give it that extra edge short hair cuts are in this summer. As far as clothing goes colourful summer dresses shorts crop tops skirts and slippers are a definite go to. Even if you are not much of a fashion freak step out of your comfort zone this summer and play the stylist. The beverage menu is designed with a twist on classics with the usage of local ingredients. First Impressions We chose to visit The Toddy House on a lazy Sunday noon. The ambience here is vibrant with a pop of colours like yellow teal and orange in the chairs. The walls are decorated with a retro image of an elephant and movie posters from 60’s. What We Ate We started with the Davazhakulam Long Strong Ice Tea a take on the original LIIT. The drink had island vibes and came with agave mango vodka coconut favored white rum juniper infused with white spirit triple sec splash of bourbon topped with coconut water and pineapple nectar. From the appetizers the chef recommended the Malabar Anchovy Fry – red chilli marinated anchovies in toddy batter fried till crisp. The spicy seafood favor made it a great snack with our drink. Next up was the Chicken Shots – mormulaga crusted chicken cucumber radish noodles and ginger. The dish was easy to eat as it came with toothpicks in a shot glass and pretty presentation too. We were also served the Cheeseling Jhalmuri – cheese topped with onions green chillies and cumin dust. This was followed by Kochuri Coins – crunchy kachoris flled with spiced potato with a drizzle of date and chilly chutney. We ended the meal with Duck roast which came with spicy chilli aromatic spices and shallots. The meat was cooked till tender and the meat fell right of the bone. Keeping in mind the concept of toddy shaaps the restaurant does not serve desserts. 47
