These give them different qualities than other types which make them incompatible to other pastel types. 03/23/18 4 www.showflipper.com | Company Presentation | Pastel

Techniques to use Pastels Challenges of using pastels – Can be used only on abrasive surfaces like paper canvas burlap. Color cannot be mixed and tested ahead of time. 03/23/18 11 www.showflipper.com | Company Presentation | Pastel

slide 12:

Dry Washing This technique smoothes the color. Paper towel cotton ball fingers can be used to rub it gently to spread color evenly. 03/23/18 12 www.showflipper.com | Company Presentation | Pastel

Colored Ground For pastels a pre colored surface can be used. Reduces vibrancy of the pastel. The hard side of pastel can be used to cover the entire surface and dry washed for a colored ground effect. 03/23/18 13 www.showflipper.com | Company Presentation | Pastel

Erasing Pastels are difficult to paint over and hence have limited options to correct a mistake. A kneaded eraser gently removes the pigment from the surface. The eraser lifts the pigment particles off the surface. 03/23/18 14 www.showflipper.com | Company Presentation | Pastel
