Psalm 25:4-9:

Psalm 25:4-9 Your ways, O Lord, are love and truth to those who keep you covenant

PowerPoint Presentation:

4 Make me to know your ways, O Lord; teach me your paths. 5 Lead me in your truth, and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all the day long. 6 Be mindful of your compassion, O Lord, and of your merciful love, for they have been from of old. 7 Remember not the sins of my youth, or my transgressions; according to your mercy remember me, for your goodness’ sake, O Lord! 8 Good and upright is the Lord; therefore he instructs sinners in the way. 9 He leads the humble in what is right, and teaches the humble his way. Many scholars believe that David wrote this psalm at the time he was dealing with his rebellious son Absalom. Verse 5 Lead me in your truth, and teach me,” Like so many parents before and after him, he was praying for God’s guidance in dealing with one of his children. Verse 6 Be mindful of your compassion, O Lord, and of your merciful love, What do you suppose the difference is between compassion and merciful love? As a little girl once said, “When you ask your Mother for a piece of bread with peanut butter on it, and she gives it to you, that is compassion. But when she puts jam on it without being asked, that is merciful love.” A man once asked, “Why did God choose a man like David, who was such a big sinner?” Well if God would save David, there just might be a chance He will save us.

When your child comes to you and tells how they stole some money from your purse, bought and ate potato chips, you become angry and feel betrayed. You can bet those are the same feelings God has toward us when we sin. You punish the child but you recognize it was the work of the Holy Spirit in them that gave them the courage to confess.

PowerPoint Presentation:

Their confession and punishment freed them from their sin and in time you forgave them but you never stopped loving them. As it says in Jeremiah 31:34, “ I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.” Whether you realize it or not you mirrored God’s love. You punished them not out of revenge but our of love. You forgave them out of both compassion and love.

True guidance can be found in Biblical passages. Two friends met after not seeing each other for a long time. One had gone to college and was now very successful. The other hadn’t gone to college and never had much ambition, yet he still seemed to be doing well. The college graduate asked his friend, “How has everything been going with you?” The less-educated man replied, “Well, one day, I opened my Bible at random and dropped my finger on a page. The word under my finger was oil. So I invested in oil, and boy, did the oil wells gush. Then I tried the same method again, and my finger stopped on the word gold. So I invested in gold, and those mines really produced. Now I’m as rich as Warren Buffett.”

The college grad rushed to his hotel room, grabbed his Bible, flipped it open, and dropped his finger on a page. When he opened his eyes, he saw that his finger rested on the words Chapter Eleven. Chapter 11 is the chapter of the United States Bankruptcy Code, which permits reorganization. The more educated man reorganized his priorities and is presently journeying toward his eternal reward . —Van Morris, Mount Washington, Kentucky In studying the bible you will discover yourself and the solution to your problems and faults.
