slide 1:

Ontario will nominate more immigrants for permanent residence in 2019 Ontario one of the Canada’s most populous provinces will now be able to nominate 6900 immigration candidates for Canadian permanent residence through its immigrant nominee program in 2019. Nine Canadian provinces and two territories operate through the Canada’s Provincial Nominee Program PNP. Through this program the provinces are able to select a set number of immigrants for Canadian permanent residence in order to fll specifc labour market needs. Last year the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program OINP’s allocated 6600 nominations and later announced an additional 250 nominations till the end of 2018 that brought total nominations for the year to 6850. For 2019 Ontario had requested an additional 1000 nominations— for a total of 7600 nominations — in response to the “strong” demand for the OINP . Ontario’s allocation boost for 2019 refects the fact Canada’s annual admissions target for the PNP has been increased for both 2019 and 2020.

slide 2:

This year’s national target of 61000 new permanent residents is an increase of 6000 over 2018’s target of 55000. In the Ontario’s 2019 allocation 6650 nominations are the principal allocation and an additional 250 spaces are for intermediate-skilled temporary foreign workers TFWs. This new initiative was announced on March 12 by Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada IRCC. The principal allocation of 6650 nominations will be issued through the OINP’s various immigration pathways including the popular Express Entry- linked Human Capital Priorities Stream. Three of the Ontario’s immigration streams are linked to the federal Express Entry system which manages the pool of candidates for three of Canada’s main economic immigration categories — Federal Skilled Worker Class Federal Skilled Trades Class and Canadian Experience Class. Through it’s Express Entry-linked streams Ontario is able to search the federal pool and invite candidates who match their provincial and federal criteria to apply for a provincial nomination for Canadian permanent residence. Moreover the Express Entry candidates receive an additional 600 points towards their Express Entry ranking score thus increasing their prospects to receive an invitation from IRCC to apply for Canadian permanent residence.
