All You Need To Know About IUC

slide 2:

What is IUC What is IUC Interconnect Usage Charge or IUC is a cost paid by one mobile telecom operator to another when its customers make outgoing mobile calls to the other operators customers. All calls to operators other than the one you are on will be charges 6 paise/minute These calls between two different networks are known as mobile off-net calls. Calls made from WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger will not be affected by IUC.

slide 3:

Do all network operators in India pay IUC Yes all operators including Vodafone Reliance Jio Airtel pay IUC charges to TRAI. Two years ago the sector regulator had brought it down to 6 paise per minute to 14 paise per minute and decided to scrap the charge from January 2020. This led to a legal tussle between the regulator and the incumbents since IUC is a revenue generator and any reduction would lead to loss in that net revenue. To compensate for this amount Reliance Jio has gone forward and announced that they will be offering 10 GB 4G data on every 10 Rs. IUC top-up.
