Slide2:

Our Organization Western Illinois Animal Rescue (WIAR) was founded in 2000 by a group of caring citizens from Warren County who wanted to help animals in need. WIAR is a "NO KILL" organization. We do not euthanize any of the animals in our care unless it is medically our only option. We are 100% volunteer operated. Recycle Adopt a Shelter Pet

Our Shelter Situation:

Our Shelter Situation Western Illinois Animal Rescue is a very small organization and is currently unable to afford a shelter of our own. WIAR has what we like to call, "The Building Fund." When we receive memorials from the community they go directly into this fund along with any extra money we can come up with. Having a shelter of our own would allow us to make an impact on the lives of so many  more animals in our area. We foster all of our cats and dogs in homes or at Monmouth Small Animal Hospital . We have a strong relationship with the Warren County Animal Shelter, which is a kill facility . When possible, WIAR finds homes for the animals there also. Please keep in mind that this is not always possible, due to each cat or dog's individual situation. We do our best to find homes for as many animals as possible but more help is always needed and greatly appreciated.

Where Are They Now:

Where Are They Now Leona was found as a stray, dragging a chain, and appeared to have had a recent litter of puppies. Because of extreme fear issues, she was considered unadoptable and scheduled to be euthanized. WIAR saved Leona from euthanasia and with the help of certified dog trainer, Julie Clark, helped Leona overcome her fear issues. After working with her for several months, WIAR found the perfect home with Craig and Cassie Griffin. Leona quickly adopted Drayson as “her boy”. We are so grateful to this family for their dedication to her and for giving her a chance when others wouldn’t. Thank you Griffins!!   “Leona is doing amazing. She has been such an amazing addition to our family. We needed her as much as she needed us.” Cassie Griffin

Where Are They Now:

Where Are They Now Curly Sue was living in frigid temperatures, fending for her life, trying to scrounge for food and water in sub-zero temperatures for months before she was rescued. Several attempts to try to catch her were unsuccessful as she was very untrusting of humans. After many failed attempts, she was finally captured in a live trap and taken immediately to the vet. Along with starvation, she was suffering from Lyme disease, and after a biopsy, it was determined she has cancer. The mass was removed from her mouth but the cancer had spread to her bones. She is currently living out her life in comfort and in a loving home. Without the amazing outpouring of community support, she would not have been given the opportunity she has been given.

A Poem To My Foster Dog:

A Poem To My Foster Dog by Diane Morgan I am the bridge between what was and what could be I am the pathway to a new life I am made of mush, Because my heart melted when I saw you, Matted and sore, limping, depressed. Lonely, unwanted, afraid to love. For one little time you are mine. I will feed you with my own hand I will make you whole. I am made of steel. Because when the time comes, When you are well and sleek, When your eyes shine, And your tail wags with joy Then comes the hard part. I will let you go — not without a tear, But without a regret. For you are safe forever – A new dog needs me now.
