Engagement Activities:

Engagement Activities I chose the SHS cross country team because I enjoy running and competing at the varsity level. I have competed with the varsity squad since freshman year. I participate in morning and after school practice and cross cross country meets. I also try to engage my team in other activities like spaghetti dinners and pre-season goal setting parties to help with team bonding. This year I hosted a goal setting party and spaghetti dinner before a big meet to help calm some nerves. I train every day. Most days I run in the morning because of my busy schedule. (after school I have golf practice) I run with my team at least two days a week for practice or meets.

Sportsmanship:

Sportsmanship Sportsmanship is defined as playing fair, following the rules of the game, respecting the judgment of referees and officials, and treating opponents with respect. SEABREEZE GIRLS PRE-RACE CHANT “ S-S-S-e-a-B-B-B-r-e-E-E-E-z-e GOOOO SEABREEZE! ” XC CONTRACT FRIENDS

Sports in other Cultures:

Sports in other Cultures When you participate cross-country in Kenya, most races are slightly longer distances. For example in the U.S. intermediate and young girls run a 5k but in Kenya intermediate and young girls run 6k. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CaNnvOSqTGg The basic rules, scoring, course design, start, finish, strategies, and equipment are generally the same in most countries including the U.S. and Kenya. Most Kenyans participate in cross country because their body is built to run efficiently. They integrate running into everyday activities such as running to school and to town. The most interesting thing I discovered is researchers observed a higher number of red blood cells (which lent new credence to the theory that elevation makes Kenyans bodies more effective oxygen-users) but, in their conclusions, emphasized the "bird-like legs" that make running less energy-intensive and give their stride exceptional efficiency.

Final Thoughts & Reflections:

Final Thoughts & Reflections Why do you think it was important to participate in this project? Participating in the activity is very important because it keeps me training hard each week to preform my best in the upcoming meets. Cross-country keeps me busy with workouts and team bonding time with friends. Do you plan on participating in any other types of fitness activities in the future? If so, what? Yes, I plan to continue running and in the winter I plan to plan varsity basketball. Did you learn anything about yourself from participating in this activity? I learned that I am very determined to reach my goals. What were your experiences during this activity? During this project, I experienced many things from learning to set goals as a team/individually to running as a team to win 1st place titles. Would you recommend this activity to any of your family members or friends? Yes, I would highly recommend cross-country, or running in general to family and friends. I really enjoyed the course project because it helped me log my great memories and experiences that I have gained during this cross-country season.
