slide 1: India To Employ AI For Healthcare
At the World Artificial Intelligence Symposium that was held in China in the first week of March
two data scientists from Bangalore – Monish Kaul and Nikhil Narayan – presented papers titled
“Siamese Bayesian Networks for AI Based Differential Diagnosis” which proposed a new
method to improve the accuracy of AI based healthcare diagnosis. They showed that such AI
encouragement could bring about 40 improvement over manual differential diagnosis of
disorders and 10 improvement over classical AI based approached for diagnosis. This marks
the beginning of a trend that will be able to ease the load on India’s overburdened healthcare
system.
India is a country with more than a billion people and an acute shortage of doctors India
produces only 50000 doctors every year which is why AI can definitely prove to be essential
and fruitful. The main aim of introducing AI into the healthcare system is to scale hospitals and
doctors infinitely and increase efficiency of doctors by 3-4 times in the near future so that they
can see more patients. To make this possible it is only technology that can help remove
barriers of distance and time. Anyone with a smartphone can connect to a doctor if AI is
introduced into the healthcare system.
AI has the potential to transform healthcare in many ways. It could help read lab results and
images analyze huge amounts of patient data search past histories for treatment options and
much more. Screening for diseases like cancer can get faster and cheaper. All-in-all the time
slide 2: required to identify a patient’s condition to be positively affected by an ailment or not can be
brought down significantly. Also the added benefit that AI will bring is the ability to help the
economically weaker sections and the underprivileged to get access to better quality
healthcare.
However this does not mean that doctors will be replaced. AI introduced into the healthcare
system wont replace doctors but will definitely assist them in a variety of ways The processes
can be speeded up and productivity and accuracy can also be improved. Thus AI can help
bridge the demand supply gap between patients and doctors thus bridging the doctor to
patient ratio in India.
There are lots of benefits of AI being introduced into the healthcare system. AI can lower the
cost of healthcare by giving the best treatment options at the lowest possible price. Combining
this with centralized patient records the benefits can be huge Indian companies have made
progress by embedding AI capabilities into some of the diagnostic systems and treatment
protocols. However these are limited to pilots and in high-end hospitals only and are not
widely used in the healthcare infrastructure. Hopefully things will change and more funding
support will be received to keep this effort going.
Considering the positivity of the future of the healthcare system in India you will be able to set
up a great career in the clinical research industry if you are really passionate about it. But for
this you will need top clinical research training in Bangalore from a reputed institute like
Avigna Clinical Research India. After all the Indian clinical research industry requires an uplift
and you can lend a helping hand by taking up clinical research as your career so that you can
bring up your country’s clinical research image and boost the health of every Indian.
