An overview of the Ontario Geological Survey (OGS), the scope of geoscience program, linkages to Ontario Government priorities, project distribution and focus in a geographic context, and program innovations. This presentation was delivered by Dr. Andy Fyon (Director, Ontario Gological Survey), on November 6, 2012, at the Ontario Exploration and Geoscience Symposium, Sudbury, Ontario. The OGS is Ontario's mandated science organization responsible to document the geology and Earth resources (minerals, groundwater, energy) of Ontario. OGS shares that information with the public to address a range of societal issues (economy, quality of life, health, safety, infrastructure).

Wildflowers and geology, Manitoulin Island, Ontario
This presentation describes the geological history of the Manitoulin Island area, Ontario, and relates that geological history to the types of specialized plant communities that occur in different geological habitats. Habitats discussed include alvar, rock desert, sand dune, deciduous forest, and bog. The talk was presented at the Annual General Meeting of District 13, Ontario Horticultural Society, in Mindemoya, Manitoulin Island, Ontario, by Andy Fyon, Director, Ontario Geological Survey, MNDM on May 11, 2013.
