A presentation based on a lecture given at Cardiff University as part of an MSc module, Local Food and Sustainable Development. It argues the localisation of food systems is not enough to promote Sustainable Development and international trade is essential. It is stressed trade needs to be government appropriately to ensure the right outcomes. An extension of this argument is that Fair Trade is one such system of governance that might facilitate outcomes conducive to the aims and objective of SD
