Japan faces higher fuel bill as nuclear shutdown enters 3rd year
TOKYO — The restart of Japan's nuclear power industry is proving pivotal to the economic vision of the country's prime minister as soaring fuel bills after the Fukushima disaster threaten to keep the country's trade in a deeper deficit for longer. As Japan marks the second anniversary this week of a crisis that scarred the nation, the fuel bills to pay for lost atomic output are leaving their own scars on the economy, partly owing to Abe's own making. His mix of economic policies — dubbed Abenomics by the media — has driven the yen down sharply, thus raising the cost of imports that will weigh on the revival of a nation that has traditionally relied on exports to drive growth.More articles here:http://www.docstoc.com/docs/148504839/Tokyo-Agile-Financial-Reviews-Bank-of-Japan-emergenc y-meetinghttp://acenagile1987.edublogs.org/2013/03/14/tokyo-agile-financial-reviews-bank-of-jap an-emergency-meeting/

Japan’s Nuclear Accident has Some Countries
(Institute for Energy Research) – The earthquake and tsunami that recently hit Japan knocked out the back-up power that runs the cooling system on several of Japan’s nuclear reactors, exposing fuel rods, and damaged components to several of the reactors. The Japanese have worked tediously to avoid a full meltdown by cooling the control rods with seawater from the Pacific Ocean and deploying helicopters and fire trucks to more effectively disperse water on the units. Japan’s reactors were tested to withstand an earthquake of a 7.9 magnitude. Unfortunately, the earthquake that struck last Friday was of a 9.0 magnitude.
