El gerundio :El gerundio Ing form of the verb in Spanish


How do we form the Gerundio? :How do we form the Gerundio? Verbs ending with AR, we add ANDO E.G HABLAR > HABLANDO CANTAR> CANTANDO CAMINAR> CAMINANDO Verbs ending with ER, IR, We add ENDO E.G COMER> COMIENDO VIVIR> VIVIENDO CORRER> CORRIENDO


GERUNDIO :GERUNDIO Some irregular verbs. Only those ending with IR, will change a single vowel when converting from infinitive to gerundio. E>I O> U E.G DORMIR> DURMIENDO SEGUIR> SIGUIENDO MENTIR> MINTIENDO


GERUNDIO :GERUNDIO THE VERBS ENDING IN AR AND ER, WONT HAVE ANY CHANGES IN THE ROOT WHEN CONVERTING THEM FROM INFITIVE FORM TO GERUNDIO. ONLY THOSE IRREGULAR ENDING IN IR EG. BAILAR>BAILANDO COMER> COMIENDO


ANOTHER RULE :ANOTHER RULE When the verb has a vowel before the AR ER IR, then when transforming into Gerundio, we should change that vowel into a Y. E.G LEER>LEYENDO CAER> CAYENDO HUIR>HUYENDO


TWO EXCEPTIONS :TWO EXCEPTIONS IR, I mean, the verb to go, changes to YENDO. E.G IR, Yendo PODER> PUDIENDO

By…Ing :By…Ing ( if, when, because one....)   Estudiando, sacarás notas mejores. By studying (If, When, Because you study), you will get better grades. Viajando en los países de habla española, aprenderán a hablar bien el español. By (While) traveling in Spanish speaking countries, they will learn to speak Spanish well. Te sentirás mejor dejando de fumar cigarillos.  You'll feel better by stopping smoking. Gerundio clause, + future tense clause. advice.> By............ing,.............something will happen.


By…Ing :By…Ing How long? The gerundio is used after the verb PASAR and a period of time to express the time duration of an action.  Look at these examples: Pasé  dos horas estudiando.  I spent two hours studying. Ellos pasaron media hora arreglándose para la fiesta.  They spent a half hour getting ready for the party.   The "Pasar + gerundio" sentences are talking about "uninterrupted" actions- how long you have been working at a specific activity. . ejemplo:  Yo/hablar con mis padres/ 1 hora >Pasé una hora hablando con mis padres. Yo/ducharse/15 minutos Ellos/estudiar/2 horas Tú/escribir el informe/3 semanas El profesor/leer los proyectos/ 4 noches Mi amigo y yo/ reírse por teléfono/ media hora
